Hunter's system is if you lose the puck in the O-zone you don't pressure to get it back you just skate back to the blue line. Unless your the the centre of course cause then you play monkey in the middle.
It's not just one player sucking here ... Everyone is.
I can't believe I've stopped watching this team. I just cant watch that crappy ass system anymore. I still think they figure out a way to make the playoffs, but I'm with pgreene....I wont be watching it if they do.
With the flip of a switch the boring can be gone. At it's ugliest, ugly wins close to 50% of the time. But I still don't think its all Dale's doing. Why won't you media lurkers get the story behind why in the world would Dale switch to a shell game he has never coached before? Its such an obvious question to ask. Are you afraid to ask it because George will Nylander you?
The system, any system, is getting killed by our young defense and inconsistent tending, and has all year. George made the bed with 5 young dmen and now we are laying in the ****. Jay Beagle is our best center. Really.
I am not sure running and gunning would fix those 3 glaring problems.
I see that there's a man to man defense (which basically no one uses), and a bit of a trap, but his main solution for offense is "cycle the puck and get it to the front".
Though in reality, it seems to end up more like chip and change, dump it and the other team gets a free clear, or my personal favorite forty seconds of futility where the team can't get it past the redline.
In a sport when the going gets tough, you score goals by putting a blindfold on a goalie, or hitting a defensemen repeatedly, there are things bigger than systems in play. Like sacks, or flawed rosters. Their approach is dynamic, yeah most of the time its very conservative, but not always. Perhaps new systems and changing them is too much of a mental workload.
Man has its struggles but it did cut back on our GA, while presumably sacrificing offense but we do win ~ half the games. So its hasn't completely failed.
If George envisioned Dale implementing these significant changes all along including mobile puck movers galore and thus man coverage, he needed to hire him in the summer. Determine the teams collective IQ's and realize, yeah, its a summer time thing.
Bruce's system fared better to entertain. I admit, its why I watch - to be entertained. But when Jay Beagle is your "best" center, maybe it's best to just get pucks on net.
It's just another meltdown monday. Win tonight, we are back.

Oh come on....you'll be watching.

lol @ people here threatening to not watch this team. You guys are suck fickle fans. Watch the friggin' game, geez. I know its frustrating sometimes but I still get joy in watching my team play.

You seriously get joy out of watching nearly an entire period of hockey from this team, and not seeing a single shot on goal? That gives you joy? LIke a "YAAAAYYY!" feeling? Like..."Wow...this is fantastic display of coaching and heart!"

Its un****ingwatchable.
No, I did admit its frustrating at times. But if you are willing to stop watching this team, a team which is still in 8th spot in the east, then I don't know what to tell you. They're still fighting for a spot and there are 10 games left. As crappy as that period was, I'm not going to stop watching. The game wasn't out of hand at that point and they've certainly had a few comeback wins recently. So you give up on your team the minute it gets tough for them?

I give up on them before the puck even drops at this point.
Look...I totally disagreed with the coaching change. When they, the players, decided to quit on Bruce...well...Ive basically quit on them. Its not a ****ing team. Ill support this team like I have in the past when they finally decide to stop playing like a bunch on pansies, man the **** up, and play some balls to the wall hockey.

What's all this "get it to the front" business you mentioned?

Unfortunately this is a part of sports, especially hockey. It happened to the Pens a few years ago and they somehow managed to win the cup (not saying this will happen with the Caps).

Until then....they aint getting **** from me.
I bet they feel terrible about you not watching them.
A real fan supports his team when they play like ****, when they need it.
Although I don't really think the players give a **** if Verizon Center is crowded or not, as long as they get the paycheque.
supporting the team and spending your time on the team are different things. spending your time on your team and setting your schedule by their schedule are different things.
maybe this the point strung is making.
* hockey is supposed to be entertaining. if its not entertaining, why watch it?
* when they came out flat and went down 2-0 and then 3-0 i went and watched something elsen with my wife. that was more fun and more entertaining.
If they make the playoffs, I'll watched as much as I can. that said, there is very little that this current group is doing to sell me that i need to watch. there is no explosion.
they do have some of the most exciting players in the league and its clear that the game plan they play is not created to use that talent.
I am still amazed that this team with all its offensive skill chose to play defense in OT the other day and play for the shootout. When I am seeing Jay Beagle literally skating every other shift in 4 on 4 overtime play and players like semin, green, johansson not skating at all while beagle gets twice the OT shifts that ovechkin is getting, what it is they are thinking.
