+/- isn't overrated, it's extremely misleading.

It does have some merit to ones performance but too many people use it as a bragging/insulting tool without looking at the big picture.

Sort of like people who discuss who should be in the HHOF based on Stanley Cups. Some are more deserving than others, but what both those statistic and accomplishment comes down to is team play.

+- is only good for comparing players against each other on the same team.

The Pete's were 20-45 the year Puempel was -33! Every other player who played enough games and got enough ice time was negative by a lot. Their plus minuses ranged from -10 to -38..

Guess who was -38... Austin Watson. It's like saying because Rick Nash is -23 this year he sucks.

That's the best part.
Wonder why he didn't play for Petes today.

Maybe the sens wanted their doctors to get a good look at him. So they asked them not to play him and brought him to ottawa, and then cleared him to be healthy? That's just a guess.

I just hope he can stay healthy for a full season next year to actually develop.

Good to see him finally healthy. Hope he helps Binghamton a bit now, if only to give them something to look forward to next year.

He has to be 20 to play in the AHL full time, which he will be on January 24th.

Not sure exactly how it works though, if he can make the swap to Bingo that late in the season or if there's some cut off date that wouldn't allow him.

Once the CHL teams are eliminated it doesn't matter how old you are you can go join your NHL teams affiliate. Toffoli played with Manchester last year when the 67s were eliminated despite having to play in the OHL or NHL this year.

I doubt his team would be eliminated before he turns 20 though...but that at least answers my question on whether he could make the jump to the AHL in the mid season.

That's a weird quirk in the rules. Oh well, at least he'll play some pro games.

Every year this topic comes up, maybe it's time for a sticky or something with the junior to pro rules?

lol I know eh. You'd think after the same questions are answered year after year they'd start to stick.

Interesting, indeed.

This has happened with a few players in past, including the likes of Jordon Eberle a few years back. He joined the AHL team at the end of the year when he was 18, averaged a ppg, then went back to Saskatoon the next year (because he couldn't play in the AHL), only to join the AHL team again the following spring when Saskatoon was eliminated again.

While it is tough to throw Puempel into AHL action right away given he hasn't played in the OHL for a few months, he is a guy that could be a perfect fit on the wing of either Da Costa or Locke. He is one of the best pure snipers in the OHL for his age group (despite his #'s) and he's never had a decent set-up man his entire career in Peterborough. I think he'll likely struggle given the jump in speed and how rusty he has been, but he could be a help on the powerplay. Bingo after all, doesn't have a lot of quality triggerman. Great experience for him regardless, and will be nice for him to get some extra playing time given his misfortune this year.

Other things that come up every month:
Buying out Alfie to resign him like we did before
2 way contracts and how they work.

Man, we seriously need a sticky for Waivers eligibility rules, too.

SO SICK of explaining that every time we have a guy under 25 who is not performing well. "Send him to Bingo!" they say. It's not that easy...

Should be interesting to see how he does.

Definitely encouraging that he's healthy enough to go.

maybe as a whole, but it definitely carries some value. there are other factors (i.e., line mates, puck control, weak sauce goals, etc.) that skew it's overall legitimacy. if you added the time variable (like GAA for goalies) leveraged with even strength points, you'd get more accurate reading, imo.

Guys, be sure to tamper expectations with Puempel. He is coming off some pretty significant injures and OHL hockey is all he's ever known. Definitely going to be an adjustment period for him and he's going to have to get his legs and timing back.

Wonder how much of an opportunity he's really going to get in Bingo. You got to think he'll be top line or at least top 6 with some pretty good ice-time and first PP unit.

How many games left in Bingo's season?

I find this pretty handy for waiver explanation.

4 home games, (one on Wednesday this week), and 7 away games, so a total of 11 games.

Plus/minus is often overrated. The players often play similar game and in the one season are in minus and the second in plus.

I hope that Bingo will help him and could be KK is the right man for him. (Btw I hope KK will be our the future coach)
