This is where the issue lies.
From 14-15, 15-16, 16-17 & 17-18 (he'll be 36-39 years old) he is still getting paid 6.7 million a year with a 5.3 million cap hit. That is a brutal stretch and I'd love to see someone defend that.

first there are out-clauses in that contract, one for the team and one for him, so it's not a locked NTC all the way..
second, found this on CBS:
"he's only 32 and already has over 300 wins, 55 shutouts, career GAA 2.5, career sv% .920, and he played half his career with the Panthers. If he continues at his current pace, and plays til he's 37 or so, he'll finish with similar (or better) numbers than Patrick Roy, Ed Belfour, dominik hasek, and grant fuhr, ALL of who are or will be in the HHOF. If he had played his whole career in a trap system, his numbers would be comparable, if not better than brodeur."
Those who are Alta fans, or Hawks, Bruins, etc will naturally have a bias, but if you play fantasy hockey (which is where I got this from), you'll have a pretty objective sense of his value. He is top 5-7 in the league, easily, if not 3-5. It is not a stretch to assume that he will still be playing at a high level at that stage in his career, a la Thomas or Brodeur. Gillis will not give him away.
What we really need is a premiere RHS Dman, but Malone, Connoly, 1st would get it done, maybe with Raymond coming the other way
