This type of deal wouldn't be for the playoff run, more like an off-season acquisition. Don't know if that makes a difference with regards to the 'veteran' status or not. What about a Scott Walker? I know that's been tossed about in the past.

As for Erat's PKing skills. I think they can be developed in a similar fashion to Steve Sullivan. Over the past few seasons, Sullivan's role has gone from little PK time to solid PK time in Chicago to the Preds most dangerous (and oftentimes most effective) PKer. Erat doesn't see much time on the Preds, but they have a pretty solid core of PKing wingers. And almost every one can take faceoffs if needed. Erat cannot. I think if a team needed PKers, he could fill that role. He's got the speed, quickness, puck skills, and tenacity necessary to make it work.

the sens have a abundance of players that are capable of playing 3rd line minutes

1st line- Alfredsson,Heatley,Spezza
2nd line- Havlat
3rd line- Fisher,Schaefer,Neil,Varada,Kelly,Eaves,Vermette,S molinski
4th line-McGrattan,Hamel (M),Martins (M),Bochenski (M),Schubert

anyway we need to get rid of some 3rd liners and get a 2nd line veteran LW or C with only one year left on his contract, who's a good passer (give Havlat a start) and good defensively.

The bolded names won't be moved......they are far to important to this teams playoff success, IMO (Eaves and Fish are a big part of the teams future to boot).

Vermette and Kelly are dirt cheap and are probably our best 2 PKers, so I doubt Mucks moves them.

That leaves Smoke, Neil, and Varada who don't really carry any trade value...especially not enough to get a #2 centre. Out of these 3, if you are going to move Varada you better get a gritty (dirty) agitating player back, as that is an important role for the playoffs.....don't see it happening.

Mucks has stated publicly that he doesn't want to subtract from the current team....meaning if he does do a deal it will have picks and prospects going the other way, no matter how many 3rd liners you feel we have.

Samsonov and Leetch from the Bruins for Schubert, Vermette and a 2nd round pick. Both bruins players are UFA and both Ottawa players are low paid and could help the Bruins now and in the future. Or a first rounder, Bochenski and Schubert. Or Volchenkov and Bochenski.

I have zero interest in Samsonov...the guy is a good player but the last thing we needed is another flashy perimeter guy.

For this team, Vermette > Samsonov. Samsonov is by far the better player but we have enough flashy wingers.
