Rangers clinch a playoff spot tomorrow night with a point. Buffalo and Winnipeg can max out at 96 and the Rangers own the ROW tiebreaker over both of them.

Updated to include games on 3/18.

We need one point to clinch a spot.

Yep. I'm updating the list now. I didn't watch the post-game, but was it just me or did they not mention that we clinched right after we won?

Edit - Updated to include games on 3/19 and our clinched playoff berth!

NBCSN mentioned the clinched playoff spot at the end of regulation.

Well, now this turns in to a first place Magic Number thread.

Here's an easy to read remaining schedule for y'all. Teams currently in PO position are highlighted.

Well at least the game remaining thing doesnt matter after March 30th...last 5 games will be same nights with us vs pens.

I like to subscribe to the notion that every team in the NHL plays 82 games, so I don't worry about the games remaining statistic.

We need the points and our ROW statistic is very good.

I agree, but the pens arent an even 2 points back, they are 1 point back. If we were tied it would be okay at the end, but the fact is they can leapfrog us and even if our ROW is 5 games better, doesnt mean freaking squat if they finish 1 point up.

Updated to include games on 3/20.

A win tomorrow (either a ROW or SO) will clinch us a top-7 seed.

Expect Biron to start that Toronto game and the Jets game. Rangers were gifted with a nice schedule down the stretch.

I look at it this way -- if the Pens win like an unthinkable 20 of their last 21 games, there really is no shame to losing the division and top seed to them.

Eh, do you do Biron for Buffalo at home and @Minnesota, or Biron at Toronto and at Winnipeg? I think I'd rather the former, Winnipeg is tough at home and I'd rather Henrik start that one.

Jets are fighting for a playoff spot and are thus the tougher game. I'd suspect he plays against the Wild. Including that game, Lundqvist gets a max of 3 days off between starts. I would suspect that he plays both games against the Sabres and the Leafs.

You should let them know they were playing for a playoff spot last night in pittsburgh.

In a close game going into the third period? Yeah, you're right... what a ****** effort they put in. That wasn't an 8-0 game where the Jets scored 4 because the Penguins let up. The game was tied 3 times. Pittsburgh is a better team, that's all.

(Unfortunately) Pitt has 96 pts, not 94 listed in the table.

I'm sightly confused.

Washington can still possibly get 98 points, while we currently have 97 points.

Doesn't that mean we could still technically drop to 9th?

No, because no one below them can catch us.

With the injuries that the Wings have and if we play for the most part like we did the last two games, we should be able to sweep through March.

Any way you look at it, they let in 8 goals, you just can't have a team just walk all over you the entire game if you want to even fight for a playoff spot.

This also isn't the first time they get lighten up by PIT (Last time they had no crosby and a slumping malkin and still whipped them). You'd think they would try to adapt to at least keep them under 5 goals

If we go 6 - 3 the last 9 games - I think we might win the Division. It fores the Pens to go 8 - 2 in their Final 10 and that is pretty tough considering the maddening pace they are on at the moment (meaning they are due for a setback or two). Not saying they cannot do it, but going 6 - 3 should be very close to being enough. Our next 5 games are all against teams outside the POs (with 2 of them still in the mix - ie Buffalo & Winnipeg). After that - April looks tough as nails. The game #81 in Pittsburgh on April 5th is looking more & more like it will have huge impact. Would be nice to have a 4 point cushion with more ROWs by then...
