Speaking of the Black Keys.

I gave El Camino a shot yesterday and I couldn't stand it after three songs. It's like a Nickelback album: it's the same song over and over and over and over and over again.

Listened to the first few songs on Brother(s?) and same thing.

Wow that's an infinitely better lineup than last year. I'd go just to see Justice. Black Lips, M83 and Dan Mangan seal the deal. + many others who I've seen before and a few new artists I'd like to see. Just started listening to Zeus today.

If you compare El Camino to anything Nickelback, get them ears checked.

That is just ridiculous... Plus you never judge an album on listening to 3 songs. Any good album requires multiple listens... unless you listen to pure crap.

Brothers is just amazing and no songs sound the same, so I don't even know how you can say they sound the same.

El Camino is totally different from what they did before.... but it sounds in no way, shape or form to anything related to Nickelback.

In fact, you made me puke a little in my mouth with that comment.

Opinions man, opinions! Not everyone is going to like the same music..

And I tend to agree with him, they do sound the same after a while....

I have no objections to someone liking Nickelback or whatever... those are opinions, no problem with that.

But you have to listen to an album a couple of times, in its entirety to be able to make a judgment like that.

100% agree with the bolded. El Camino is a disappointing follow up to one of the better albums of the decade but its still better than 99% of pop music.

Brothers has a huge range of different songs, both in the music and the message. Love it. (love their old stuff too) How can you listen to Everlasting light, then Next Girl then Ten Cent Pistol then Unknown Brother and say those songs are the same? So ridiculous.

Van Halen was pretty "meh" last night.

I have no idea what they were thinking having Kool And The Gang open for them. Sucked the life out of the building.

Where were you sitting? I was in 221. I had to get toilet paper and stuff it in my ears. I have never been to a concert as loud as that. Kiss, AC/DC, etc...it was painful. Like, who does the soundcheck there? Everything sounds good there yet it felt like watching Bon Jovi or Def Leppard at the Civic Centre 20 years ago. It sounded crappy.

They were great but the vocals were drowned out by the howitzers, i mean the drums, and the bass was droning way too loud. Too bad.

I was on the floor.

You can usually ask any of the staff at the gates, they usually have earplugs for loud events. TP's not necessary, haha!

And it was pretty damned loud, although I didn't have the vocal drownout like you're describing. Different spots, I guess...

And as for the soundchecks, that's all done by the bands themselves, they have their own people. So whatever the levels were last night, that's what VH wanted them to be, I guess.

Worst part of the show were the weird "dog" interludes, though. David Lee Roth talking about random stuff in the middle of a show like that sort of let the air out of the building at times.

I'll definitely remember that tip about earplugs, thanks. Roger Daltrey was loud because the guys ia half deaf, but it was clean, crisp sound, not that drone fest. I do have humming in my left ear so maybe I was a little preoccupied, but I know a guy on the floor that left because he was dying on the floor. I have been to so many Grand Prix races which is incerdibly loud, but last night me and my bro, we were in pain.

I learned the difference between sheep dog and cattle dog, what, you didn't think that was important?

Diamond Dave is a mesmerizing front man, can't sing great but never could. It was great to see them back together.

Not that I would ever pay to see them but I did get there in time for "Celebration" which was kinda neat.

Didn't cost me personally a thing, but I know for sure tickets were expensive. Pair of floor tickets were like $300-350, I think.

BTW, ****ed up are playing April 30 at Babylon. That's going to be an amazing show. They're one of the best live bands in the world. Saw them in Montreal in October.

Seconded. Their openers are Hollerado, who are also brilliant in their own way.

How they managed to get a pop-punk band opening for a hardcore one, I'll never know....

Man, I WISH I were a bawler.

Other things on my "wish list":
- I was a little bit taller
- I had a girl who looked good
- a rabbit, in a hat, with a bat.
- a '64 Impala.
