they must have noticed him while tracking ex-Flames prospect Aaron Marvin, a former teammate of Eddy.

although his stats + physical attributes aren't impressive, I'm all for signing NCAA/CHL UFA prospects for free.

all I could find on him from the prospects board, from about a year ago:

http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/sh...highlight=eddy

Quote:
Eddy is one tough son-of-a-gun and has the potential to put up Garrett Roe type numbers... as long as he stays academically eligible.
and from the NCAA board:

http://hfboards.hockeysfuture.com/sh...highlight=eddy

Quote:
As far as I can surmise, he's a scrappy agitator with a non-stop motor, kind of in the mold of Roe, but a tiny bit bigger and with less ego. I don't think he has Roe's upside
Quote:
I thought he was poised for a big year and he has a more in-your-face game the team is lacking this year. His presence really showed on the score sheet.

Apparently he was also suspended twice during his sophmore season, once for grades and another time (speculated) for alcohol.

and btw, Garrett Roe was a former PPG NCAA'er, who has 35 points in 62 games in his rookie AHL season this year.

I thought the Flames were already at 50 contracts, so obviously there's some reason they can sign person #51... Guys?

The contract doesn't kick in until next season:

"The Calgary Flames announced today they have signed forward David Eddy from St. Cloud University to a two year, two-way contract with the first year being 2012-13"

(from their site)

I kind of like to think that if the Flames can target some of these undrafted college kids, then it'll almost make up for any draft picks Feaster is unable to get back. Obviously I would hope for guys with higher upside than Eddy, but I think this is a good step in the right direction.

This isn't so much a signing to make up for the lack of prospects but the fact that we'll be lacking the usual draft pick or two...or three. Who knows what'll happen come draft day.

Right now we actually have 7 picks in the upcoming draft. We are minus our 2nd (Regehr deal) and 5th (Leblond deal), but have the BJs 5th (via Montreal in the Bourque trade) and the Leafs 7th (from the Primeau deal).

Next year we are down our 2nd (in the Bourque deal) and maybe up or down a 7th or swapping 7th rounders with Anaheim (from the MacMillan/Jaffray trade, as there was a conditional 7th on each side)

Good Minnesota kid. I went to high school with him at Woodbury Senior High. He was a senior when I was a freshmen.

Even with 7 picks, that's still two 2nds we're lacking between today and next season.

Maybe Feaster will be daring and trade some lower picks to get us a 2nd

I don't mind this, even though he sounds like a 4th maybe 3rd liner at best, we lack these types of players on the Flames. Guys that are 'physical' and can contribute on the score sheet. Will be interested to see this guy in camp next year.

sounds like he could be our version of Steve Ott. Let's hope, the flames need someone like that in the bottom six.

Haha i wish:p

Steve Ott is actually a good faceoff guy and has pretty good skill when he isn't pissing people off. Don't think he flames will get lucky enough to get their own version of Ott.

I think we hope he turns out to be a Carcillo type player. Energy, and can occasionally chip in, but it's not entirely expected either.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone know off the top of their heads how many contracts we have signed for next season and which prospects need to be signed or we lose their rights?

Hm, if he's projected to be that bottom 6er with some agitation, then that's fine. Thanks for the description

So we're looking at 40 with the likelys, not having signed any UFA's. Jokinen is likely, and I think Moss probably is too. Stempniak, who knows. Hannan and Sarich are probably gone.

So around 42-43 contracts needed without signing anymore of our prospects. Signing UFA's AND some more college players might put us right up to the limit again. Which is fine, really. I was just curious to how it would play out.
