Leaf have no shot at Parise according to McGuire

Given that there are many threads on next steps for the Leafs - one of the options floated is signing Parise. According to McGuire who considers himself a friend, the Leafs have no shot.

Listen at: http://autopod.ca/chum/22/podcasts/

Please ignore the gratuitous leaf bashing as it is for Ottawa radio.

I would think that Parise hasn't given it a lot of thought at this point.

The Leafs never get the good free agents.

I trust McGuire, he probably snuck into Parise's house and installed a web cam so that he can watch him all of the time.

Never thought that there was a real possibility for the Leafs anyway because NJ can't afford to lose him for one thing.

Actually he probably has done a lot of thinking about it at this point. It will probably be the biggest decision he will have to make in his career as it likely be a multi-year contract that will take him to the end of his playing days.

I don't doubt this one bit -- ditto for Suter. Parise and Suter are Americans that have plenty of options from US teams to make as much money and not deal with all the losing.

I expect the NYI's have a better shot at Parise than the Leafs.

This. Plus I don't think signing him would be a good move anyway.

Not really news. No top end FA is going to sign with a bottom feeder.

No. It would be. It just won't happen. Any time you can add a young top player its a good move. He's better than Lupul and look at the Leafs without Lupul. This is exactly what the Leafs need another young top player.

I'm sure that he is looking at Kovalchuk's contract which is the one thing that would make it difficult for the Devils.

Excellent, you can add him to the following list of players that delusional fans thought were a lock to come to Toronto:

Kovalchuk
Sedin brothers
Stamkos
Tavares
Cammalleri
Bobby Ryan
Ryan Getzlaf
Eric Staal
Brayden Schenn
Mike Richards
Jeff Carter
Rick Nash
Stastny

anyone else?

we need to do what Florida did, sign the second-tier and 3rd tier free-agents that have really helped them this season and theyre in the playoffs this year most likely.

a) who are all these fans that "thought they were a lock"?
b) why would any of them not coming be "excellent"?

a) You serious .. EVERYONE and their mother would talk about how the Sedin brothers were gonna come here because of the Burke connection bla bla and the tampering charge

Stamkos and Tavares are home town boys they will come to Toronto when they hit FA bla bla

Rick Nash .. seriously

Kovalchuk before he was traded to NJ

anyways I'm not going through everyone on the list, but I can guarantee you you can find 1 thread from the past on each of those players with people salivating from their mouth about them coming here

b) It's not excellent that they aren't coming here, it's excellent that hopefully the bigger the list grows the more realistic Leafs fans become and stop thinking everyone is gonna come here
Too many delusional fans
