Im pretty sure the goalie has to clear waivers once hes signed, Which is why teams are not signing him. Tons of interest in Eriksson amongst the NHL

Vokoun wanted to sign with a contender, who was your other suggestion? Looks like he bet on Reimer more than he bet on Gus. Everyone knew Reimer was the guy they were running with this season.

Yup, starting goalies are easy to get. We should stop wasting our time trying to save assets and pick up a potentially good goalie, and instead go acquire a legit starter that's currently available like...?

Yeah it was smart to go with a guy with half a season experience and another guy who's proven to be useless when you've proclaimed you believe you've got a team that can make the playoffs. Poor talent assessment and risk management from a guy ownership invested everything in

Nice rant, doesn't really have much to do with my point though

Sure did, in response to him not leaning on undrafted FAs. My point isn't that Burke did a wonderful job with the team, it's that in your analogy he's using them to supplement rather than support.

So you don't think he believed Gus as 1b in the event Reimer has a sophomore slump, which he evidently has? That's naive imo

I say go for it

I'm worried with our luck we'll go all out for a "legit" starter and he'll turn out to have been product of a good defensive system

One of these goalie projects has to turn out good at some point........surely

Our Leafs is now interested in signing two free agents from Skelleftea of the SEL. Thommie Bergman watched them play the other night and confirmed his interest in the players for one of Swedens biggest papers.

The two players that Toronto's watching is the swedish goalie Joacim Eriksson and french forward Pierre-Edouard Bellemare playing for Skelleftea.

Eriksson is 21 years old and was originally drafted by the Flyers 2008. However Philadelphia chose not to sign him this past summer which makes him a free agent now. I would imagine that the Flyers regret this now since Eriksson has a breakout year in the SEL. He's currently number one in the league in GAA with 1.56 and is number two behind Frederik Andersen with .942 in savepercentage. He has been a great prospect for a long time now but this year has been outstanding for him. He's the typical Allaire typ of goalie, plays big and covers the net extremely well.

Bellemare is currently number one for Skelleftea in scoring with eight goals and nine assists in 23 games. He's really a type of energy player that fits well on a third or fourth line with great skating and so on. I don't think that I want the Leafs to sign him though but Eriksson would be an awesome prospect to have in our organization. I would say that Eriksson reminds me a lot of Lindback in Nashville and they play a very similar style.

Here's the source with a quote from Bergman:

http://hockey.expressen.se/elitserie...fteas-stjarnor

Edit: I'm not really that familiar with how you get the green color in the headline so it would be great if one of the mods could correct that and also add a d in "Sweish", thanks!
i really hope we get a chance to start ruining these guys as soon as possible

Looks like they were willing to give him a look as a back-up and when Reimer went down they were quick to go to Scrivens. Gus played well enough to earn some starts, but they're not happy with their goaltending and Burke has said as much.

I was very very very excited when I heard that we were interested in him, I hope we sign him. When the flyers let him go I was hoping we draft him.

I'm very intrigued by Mark Owuya. I want to see what this kid can do with full time minutes at the AHL level. His numbers have been fantastic everywhere he's been.

Why not. It will only cost money. Hopefully he'll want to come here. Sign him up and put him in the Marlies.

Personally, I like his potential and wanted the Flyers to sign him. There's enough trash at the bottom of the contract pile that Philly could have gotten it done easily. I still find that whole thing baffling.

He's the exact kind of guy we need.. Someone who can get their save % above .900 I wonder if Carolina would even consider dealing him? I'd have to go with no.

I'd love to pick up a mid round 1st and try to grab Andrei Vasilevski ...that kid looks like a franchise goalie.
