Cannata had the opportunity to wait another year and become UFA!

He showed a great deal of loyalty to Vancouver by accepting this contract.

...

He could have. Like Wheeler and maybe Shultz... but signing with the team that drafted you is HARDLY showing a "great deal of loyalty"

So Schneider HARDLY showed a "great deal of loyalty" when he was in similar position ?

Everyone is using this example to show how Schneider is a loyal player.

Cannata also had the chance to screw over the Canucks and didnt do it.

What should we conclude?

1.He showed a great deal of loyalty as a player ?

Or

2.Cannata and Schneider did what 99% of any prospect does and Signed with the team that drafted them.

I will agree with you and go with the second option.

Guess we're lucky we didn't draft Erixon.

Why ever would you want to read those Facebook comments?

Anyway, nice to see him get signed. Can he play for the Wolves right away?

you also have Schneider from nearby Marble-head. Tough to see his family replacing Bruins stuff with Red Sox and Patriots during hockey season....

I've seen Cannata and he's good.....wish Bahstan had him

Bruins fan here (don't hurt me!)

Went to Merrimack for my first two years of college while Cannata was there. Got to watch him play there a lot. Safe to say he almost single-handely (along with Stephane Da Costa and Coach Dennehy) turned that program around and turned them into a national title contender and a Hockey East powerhouse.

Can't wait to see him inbetween the pipes for you guys. You got yourselves a gem here.

Not surprised that Joe signed. It was only a matter of time.

I'm in agreement with CamDigs here. Joe has been such an integral part of Merrimack's success throughout his collegiate career. I wish him nothing but the best with the Canucks. He's a wonderful addition to the organization.

Quick question, I haven't seen him play a single game and all I have are 2nd hand reports. I hear a lot about his technical ability, but how is his mental game?

Yes. A key point and his signing removes worry in this area.

Could get some games in with Wolves before the end of the season.

One of his greatest strengths. Doesn't get rattled, plays extremely well under pressure and holding his team in games. Bounces back between from goals very quickly.

Ah, so it looks like he can join the Wolves. Good to hear.

That 2009 draft just keeps looking better and better. 5 of the 7 guys we took are already on pro contracts in the organization.

Always good to hear from a rival. Good to hear this about Cannata though, kid sounds so promising. Thanks for the post.

I had no doubt this would get done but good to see it completed. He is so criminally underrated it's not funny.

This fella summed it up quite well right here. Really doesn't get rattled at all. He was a man amongst boys for all four years at Merrimack against the other powers of hte Hockey East.

I would also add that Joe plays with a great deal of confidence and composure. He's not cocky, doesn't get too high or low. He's just really focused and is always mentally in the game. He plays in the moment. If he gives a up goal or his team loses the game, Joe simply moves on. He doesn't dwell on it. And in NCAA college hockey, you don't often see that quality in goaltenders - even in some of the best ones.
