We can not seem to get "over the hump" passing Detroit in the standings, beating Detroit etc, getting past the first round (one exception was last season). The one consistent has been Trotz. We are easily pushed around, no one stands up for each other except in rare instances. Once again the consistent presence of Trotz. He is a good/great coach but the failure to take the franchise from good to great has got to be considered.
Additionally, why do we not have any top line forwards? Oh right, because Poile doesn't draft them. If they are drafted, Trotz turns them into 2 way forwards who forget how to score. Wilson could be a force for us but Trotz continually punishes him for "mistakes" when his vets are making the same damn mistakes!
Maybe it's not a personnel issue but a coaching/management issue. It's time for this franchise to go from being the little team that can to the team that does.
I agree with all of this pretty much.. we have a great team and we still get dominated most of the time. maybe its the system and we continually never get over the hump. if this year is another one and done, that will be 6 out of 7 years in the playoffs that we exited the 1st round and out of 7 playoff appearances we would manage to have won 1 measly series.. 1 playoff series win.
It's not just that we lost last night, it's how we lost.
The fact is that we have been making the same mistakes all season. Inability to clear the puck from the defensive zone, blind passes, cutesy passes, passes that end up in the stakes, behind teammates but right on the stick of opposing players. failure to shoot when a lane is open, getting caught in our own zone for long periods of time. These have plagued us all season. We have been lucky and haven't suffered the consequences of these problems until recently when the teams around us have racketted up the intesity. And Pekka has bailed this team out all season. The stats and our record don't tell the whole story. You can see it on the ice. Right now we would be lucky to win one game in a series with any of the top 10 teams in the west.

They are only two points back. And can certainly make things really uncomfortable if they beat us on Sunday.

Tonight's performance, and the effort of the last 6 games should be a harbinger of things to come. This team doesn't have it at the time you need to have it. We're not clicking. After almost a full year since being bounced by the Nucks, we're no better than then.

We are a lot better than last year as a team. The problem is are top players are not playing to the ability they are capable of. I am praying that this next week and playoffs awake them back to form. Pump the brakes hoss we are not going to win every game. The Preds are better than any team in the West they just need to get hungry, angry, and get key players like Wilson, Josi, and Goose back on the ice.
