Top 6 forward....Bailey, Culligan, MacNeil, Carroll, Nesbitt or Wiebe?
Since Nesbitt is already out, that leaves one of the remaining 5. If it's not Bailey or Culligan - I don't think UNB's chances are hurt that much - I know MacNeil, Carroll and Weibe bring a lot to the team - but the top 2 scorers in the playoffs and one who is the top Face-off center - either would be a blow. MacNeil would be the 3rd biggest lost - with 7pts on 18 shots, 5 for goals (.278 - best on the team). The biggest issue is the impact to Chemistry, but these guys have been moving around all year.
Time for everyone else to pick it up.
They won in 2009 and got basically nothing from Tremblay at that tournament....and they have way more depth now than they did then. As long as the defence and goaltending is sharp they will be fine...they could have rolled 4 4th lines last year and still would have won since they weren't giving up anything.
Although I don't think it matters if the injured player is named, I will follow and not name the player, although, since he is injured, he will not be on the roster and has no chance of playing in the short tournament. Coach can't be too happy
As UNB Bruins Fan pointed out - Tremblay was hurt in Thunder Bay and they won with big wins over Alberta and Western. Last year they didn't have Gallant for the series against X and won. UNB is pretty deep, and coach might be sad, but that's hockey - injuries happen. I would suspect he would be more upset for the athlete versus the impact to the team.
It means has has to choose between Corcoran/Wudrick to move up and to add either Lee/Salituro as their replacement then juggle the lines as needed - probably Lee as he's been here before, but as this is a 'roster' spot - he could go with Salituro as the wild-card.

Lee has a separated shoulder.
Wright missed today's practice?
So when did this supposed injury occur? Practice? It didn't seem like anyone besides Wright was injured in the game against Moncton. I could see the coaching staff being upset if it was an off-ice incident.
A huge loss no doubt...but they will be ok. That being said, if it is what happened then that isn't very bright on his part.
One would have to figure Wudrick and Corcoran will be in there for sure now for the first game and Shutron in for Wright. So for UQTR they still have Bailey/Culligan/Carroll/MacNeil/Todd/Wudrick/Clendenning/Campbell for the top 8 spots and then Houde-Caron/Fillier/MacDougall/Corcoran for the final 4 spots. Then Nesbitt is back for Western.

Really looking forward to the tournament starting tomorrow. Moncton v McGill is a real toss up. Based on its record McGill is favorite but I know Moncton is capable of playing better than they did against UNB.
I think the UQtR v UNB game will be closer than many people think. I know UNB has solid depth but it is still going to hurt missing both Weibe and Nesbitt. Still expect UNB to win.
McGill won alot of their games this season by 1 goal, even against lower end OUA opponents. Their win over Western at Queen's Cup was an exception, but I would be surprised if they steamroll Moncton. All 3 games to me in that pool are a toss up, and it is realy great to see 3 teams to play each other which have not played in some time.
I am expecting both Jordan Clendenning and Daine Todd to move up as wingers to the first two lines with the absence of both Weibe and Nesbitt. Meaning Houde-Caron and macDougall will center 3rd and 4th lines consisting of Wudrick, Fillier, Campbell and Corocan
McGill-Moncton will be a complete Toss Up. I think too many people are not giving Moncton enough Credit, sure they are the AUS Runnerup but they lost to UNB, whos to say Moncton wouldnt have won the Queens Cup? And I think suddenly people are giving Mcgill too much Credit, but its no different than last year or any previous year

When was the last time that Corcoran played forward, can't remember, but I think that he has played very little this year in that role.
UNB playoff roster?? Who is on it?
Lynes, Lee, Wiebe, Denny are gone for sure.

With Wiebes injury UNB has no roster decisions to make for the tournament, they have exactly the 20 skaters and 2 goalies Healthy, and that includes putting both Wright and Shutron on the final roster regardless of how much either plays, Salutaro would be the Only healthy body left off the roster
FYI Mcgill how team is currently walking down Riverside Drive towards Maugerville for a 11am stroll, if anyone can discreetly take one or two of them out. (Kidding of course)
Interesting to see the two teams staying at the Ramada Inn in Lower St Mary's are Mcgill and UQTR, that must be interesting. Anyone who is familiar with the hotel it is not big, its one hallway that goes the whole way around in a square with a Large Center Courtyard, pool, games area, being overlooked by indoor patios. Some verbal battles im sure going on
I've been following this thread for quite awhile now, and had a couple of questions. And please excuse my ignorance here. I'm not all THAT versed on the CIS, even though I do have an interest in it.
In the NCAA, particularly in the NCAA Tournament, you have your group of powerhouses such as Boston College, Michigan and North Dakota that seem to make it in every year or almost every year. Then you have the teams that surprise people. This year's it's UMass-Lowell.
Who are the usual perennial powerhouses that seem to make it to the University Cup each year? And who are the surprise team(s) this year? How was this team(s) so successful in getting to the University Cup this year?

Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Their are no actual Real Surprises this season in the CIS, even though this is Moncton first University Cup since 2008 and Saskatchewans since 2007 they both have a long history of university Cup appearances with Moncton winning 4 Nationals titles and Saskatchewan 1 in their History.
The University of New Brunswick would have to be considered the current powerhouse of CIS Hockey, this will be their 5th appearance at the cup in the past 6 seasons, the only year they did not qualify they had a 27-1-0 Conference record only to be upset in the playoffs that season. theyve won 3 of the past 5 University cups, lots a 3-2 nailbitter in the 2008 final to the university of Alberta thanks to some strong goaltending by the Alberta Netminder. If they win this year it will be 4 of the past 6 national titles for them, and could have easily been their 6th straight championchip win. And of course Oilers Chick one of your past favorite players "Daine Todd" Suits up for the VReds.
The Alberta Golden Bears although not at this years National Championchip are a regular there and propably the most storied CIS Hockey team in history
#2 Ranked McGill is appearing in their 4th university cup of the past 5 seasons. Western is in their second straight University Cup and won a title in the early 2000's. Universite de Quebec a Trois Rivieres (UQTR) round out the field, and they have a pretty deep history of university cup appearances including a Pair of titles in the Early 2000's.
Disappointing game to watch from a neutral fan's perspective. McGill were good but didn't blow me away. Moncton was awful at times. Hard to believe this is the team that beat SMU. Marion can't be faulted as the Moncton defence was sloppy in front of the net but he didn't make the saves he had to.
Verreault-Paul is certainly an impressive player for the Redmen.
