Why all the hate for Bozak?

I've been lurking here for the past few months, but in the last month I've noticed an influx of threads involving rebuilds/trades that involve us getting rid of Bozak.

It's gone so far as to have some people adding Bozak in the same group as LACK, which to be blunt, is bloody ridiculous.

Why do so many people want to get rid of Bozak. The guy is a third line centre who has been pushed into a first line role, and to be honest, he's doing quite well there for someone who is obviously not a 1C. He's one of our better defensive forwards, and from what I've seen, has a higher compete level than many players on our team. On top of that, his contract is very reasonable, and when he resigns I don't see us having to overpay for him, which is a plus in today's league.

What are everyone's thoughts?

I don't think most hate him, they just hate the role he's in. A little different.

I like him but obviously he's in a position a bit too high on the depth charts right now.

It's not hate. It's just he's not a #1 and he shouldn't be the #1 on this team. Simple.

I could see Bozak as a #2 C or #3/4.

Hes not a #1
#2 = Grabo
#3 needs to be a shutdown guy (Bozak is not)
#4 Physical and wins faceoffs (Bozak is not)

IMO he has value to some teams who roll 4 scoring lines.

Well, i am of the opinion that Bozak is a poor choice at both 1c and 3c.

I am not really a fan of bozak's game at all, I know some people are but I am not. When I watch him play, I see a soft, non-dynamic, maybe adequate sometimes defensively, poor shooter, doesnt like to engage contact, and struggles maintaining possession.

Thats the player I see, and although he has rebounded pretty decently from his last season, I get the feeling we could have thrown a number of people into his position between Lupul and Kessel this year and gotten similar results.

Not a fan. I appreciate what he has done for this team in his time here and that he is generally good with the media, but he is not a favourite of mine. My 2 cents.

That is my exact quote from another thread.

Its not that he is a bad player, I just dont see him playing on this team as we improve.

The #3 doesn't need to be a shutdown guy, just needs to be good defensively and not afraid to get in the dirty spots. Bozak would do just fine in that role.

I'm actually a Bozak fan and I too have trouble understanding why people can't stand him. The guy is solid defensively, is fast and cheap. The only thing anyone has against him is the fact that he isn't a top line center and is being played there solely to fill the gap since other centers can't seem to pull it off. Ideally, the Leafs would have a top line center (or someone who could at least fake it ie. Fisher, Vermette) then have Grabo, Bozie and Steckel as 2,3 and 4. Either way, I'd keep him and just use him properly when we finally can.

which has very good chemistry with our top players. Very good stop-gap imo ideal 3rd liner.

he is very good at faceoffs and could become a good shutdown player.

I just hate seeing him on the top line again when posters project next season's lineup. I guess some people like missing the playoffs every year. The Leafs are not going anywhere with him on the first line. I don't think he is the 3rd line C you need either on a playoff/cup team.

Tough sledding when your top center is 4th or 5th on your team in scoring.

Well, he's not a 1c. I don't think he's strong or physical enough to be a 3c.

That said, I do think his effort level is generally fairly high, and he has certainly improved this year.

Bozak was rushed into this organization, and it stunted his growth and development.

He is really a tweener.

Might be ok at a 3rd line center who can occasionally score. But not really suited to be a #1 center, or #2 center.

I think the fact he plays center and not wing takes away from his game. Between Kessel and Lupul, he is often the one doing the back-checking since the other two stink defensively and have typically given up odd-man rushes.

I see Bozak as Stajan's replacement. Pretty much the same player even is Stajan is a bit bigger.

Bozak has improved this season statiscally, which good for him, but he will never be a legit top 6 forward.

personally I love bozak, I'd keep him as our 3rd line center for sure. hes responsible defensively, good on faceoffs, decent hands, speed, shot and can stand a physical game even you wont see him throw his weight around much. I think he could developp some chemistry with frattin and ashton on our 3rd line. the problem is its the 2nd year hes forced to play on our 1st line.. and it will remain the same next year unless burke does something.

No but they can hate him for screwing up countless plays and adding to +/- woes of that line. A can of red spray paint ain't making your Cavalier a Ferrari bud.
