Doesn't make since for PHX to trade OEL just to draft another dman. It would either have to be for Yakapov or Grigorenko. PHX is hurting for young fwds with skill.

How about Gagner for Gormely.

From an Oilers perspective, no way I give up a Grigorenko/Dumba/Murray (who looks like a Ekman Larsson clone btw) for OEL. He's a good up and coming D but he's getting overrated here. Solid 2 way defenceman with plenty of room for progression. The encouraging sign is he has taken on more minutes in the latter half of the season. I don't know how or why Phoenix would turn it down though if they have a chance at drafting elite skill which they lack up front. They already have Gormley on the way as well.

OEL's better than all the d-men in the draft most likely ever will be

The Coyotes have really been leaning on him the last five games or so. He's getting over 25min per game in that span and has six points, four of which are goals.

He's 20 years old. If this is him developing, I wouldn't want to trade him for the world.

Can't believe this thread is still going. I think the OP's question has been answered.

One of Runblad or Gormley may make a nice trading chip for a young centerman to replace Turris. I don't see the 'yotes trading OEL unless they get a Jordan Staal or better in return. There is nothing in this draft that's worth it.

So you wouldn't trade a potential OEL clone, for the actual OEL that is already playing very well in the NHL?

Murray isn't an OEL clone whatsoever. Murray is Karl Alzner exact same player.

And for the Oilers poster saying you'll draft a d-man better than OEL in this draft, simply put you WON'T

I think there's a good chance that one of the d-man in this draft turns out better. And I Like OEL a lot.

Should Phoenix do this trade? Not unless Yakupov is available or they think Grigorenko is going to be great.

Definately wouldn't do it to draft another of the D available. NOT becuase none of them will be better. It's just to hard to tell who MIGHT be better. Not worth the risk and time.

.
In a few years OEL will be a top ten NHL d-men and is quickly getting there, you think anyone in this draft is gonna be better than that?

I figured as much, but based on his line of reasoning I found that to be hilarious.

I understand the draft is an exciting time, and draft picks have a great mystery box appeal, but some people get a bit carried away.

Why bother with prospects? There's always going to be somebody better on the horizon.

Maybe. Thats good value and I like Gagner just fine, but with Hanzal and Vermette already on the team, we've already got our fair share of tweener centers. It's extremely tempting, I just wonder if we couldn't sign Stoll for a couple million, or give Toronto a 7th for Lombardi. Gamble on possibly getting 40pts out of one of those two for a small price, rather than giving up an ace prospect like Rundblad for a Gagner and his likely 45pts.
