No thanks. Suter will come with a hefty 7-8 mil cap hit and at that point I'd rather use that cash to bring in an impact forward.

Suter will command 6M minimum. It COULD be a feasible idea if we were able to trade Staal for someone like Nash/Ryan, but we'd be taking on cap in that deal (unless Dubinsky went as well) as well as by signing Suter.

NYR are a pretty respectable 11th in offense.

Not nearly good enough. Enough defense. Ty Conklin, who just cleared waivers, took us to OT. Did you see how many empty nets they missed yesterday?

We're 3rd in GAA. Definitely need more offense.

it really depends on what you get back for staal...dumping staal to sign suter for double the $$ probably doesn't make sense. but if you could move staal (or another dman) for a forward that would really help us up front and then replace him on the blueline with suter thats potentially a huge upgrade

Although I really am against trading Staal I agree with this. If you can get Bobby Ryan for Staal and maybe a little extra, and you can sign Suter you do it.

Reality checks:

Parise, Nash, and Ryan will not be on NYR.
Another reality check. Staal will not be traded and Suter will not be a NYR.
Biggest offseason move will be a Gaustad like signing.

I'll put a bet on it and will willingly eat crow and pay up if it happens.

All of this Parise/Nash/Suter/Ryan talk is fan fodder. Sather hasn't traded assets for a top tier player in a long ass time. He's signed big names, but he grows the farm. Parise is the most likely on the list, but it's still a long shot.

If the offense falters in the playoffs, I can definitely see Nash being traded here. Columbus is going to most likely move him and he's likely going to want NY. Parise is a pipedream IMO and Suter is really not a definitive need.

How about we just go back in time and pick Anze Kopitar instead of Staal?

funny enough, the things the NYR org has said seem to contradict what you say.
At the beginning of last offseason they said they were looking to add 1-2 elite pieces that would supplement the core. They added Richards. They will bring in 1 more.

I'd rather go back to 2004 and trade our 5th overall + 21st + our 2006 1st & cash for the 2nd overall pick.

Nash's price will go up in the offseason. Only way that trade gets made is if Kreider decides to go back to college and Columbus agrees to pay part of the contract or Nash agrees to restructure (like the Jagr deal). Otherwise management would be crazy to take on that contract.

So either a contract restructure or Columbus pay part
+
Kreider decides to stay at BC for another year
=
Dubi, Kreider, Sauer, first for Nash.

Those would be the only players I'd be willing to part with in that trade and that's conditional of IF Kreider goes back to BC. If he says he's coming out, see how he performs in the NHL before trading him for that massive contract.

How does Nash's price go up in the offseason?

Why? The Rangers will throw a sizable offer at him and he wouldn't even have to move. He may hate the Rangers right now, but this is business and when he sees Sather slap down a contract worth $72M over 9 years I'd be willing to bet just as much money that he'd stop and think about that for a moment.

And they have this and are first in the East and have a shot at the president's trophy. 1-2 means 1 OR two. Not a certain 2. So they already fulfilled what they said in bringing in the 1 technically. Maybe they will consider Hagelin to have the tools to be elite.

If that's what it'll take to get Parise...then PASS.
