This guy has given us so many great articles over the years in The Globe and we're lucky to have him as a member on this site.
I'm not at all sure why he doesn't get more credit here, but his record speaks for itself. He's a world-class journalist and a member of the HHOF.
I think it's time we all pay tribute.
Sorry, he once produced material of substance and when reporting on this team, he was often correct and although I didn`t always agree with his opinions, at least he presented them in a well thought out and factual manner.
It`s almost like KPD is struggling, he`s struggling as this franchise no longer has the Sinden`s/MOC`s hanging around, a Jacob`s family who interferes and shaves corners off left, right and center to save a buck.
This team now has a GM who yes, makes mistakes but is rock steady, a Coach who has evolved into one of the game`s best, and an ownership group who has clearly stayed the heck out of Cam`s and Chia`s way and allowed them to do what is best for this organization and creating a connection once again with the fan base, not save money and send any potentially solid prospect/talent packing once they get too expensive.
And KPD is now writing articles that are borderline Red Fisher with an angry/bitter tone, worse yet, me thinks Fluto is starting to catch the bug.
The late Jim Kelly was also a HOF writer, and one of my favourites, I didn`t always agree with him either, but up to his last article, his integrity was never called into question, can`t say the same for KPD
Used to love him, but it seems over the past couple years he's lost a bit off his fastball.
Seems every notes column is him beating the drum about hockey ridding itself of fighting. (I get it, Bob Probert's brain didn't look good when they studied it, and it had nothing to do with the mountains of cocaine, rivers of booze, and ground up oxy pills he spent his life doing).

Tons of appreciation from me. I've been reading his stuff for years. It is GREAT when he posts here. He has insider info and great insight on all things Bruins and NHL. We are very lucky to have him. I'll raise a glass to KPD any day.
I appreciate his insight and inside info. But I long ago got turned off by his constant use of hackneyed expressions, i.e. Hub of Hockey, The Vault, Original 30, to name a few. You'd think an editor would let him know that constant repetition is boring to the reader.
I remember being a youth in the early 90's and KPD would occasionally come on the TV38 games during the intermission. Even back then, I could tell he was way too negative. No appreciation from me.
THere are no boston hockey writers who get a lot of respect around here. FLuto gets the most, I would wager. A thread like this one is bound to piss a bunch of people off.
I think that the main issue with KPD's stuff is that its a column. Its not necessarily "pro Bruins" or "anti Bruins". I know that I had a tough time reading some of the stuff I saw when the Bruins were in the playoffs last year...even right up to the end.
But the point here is the guy has put in the hours and had to view the obsessive craziness of the Boston fanbase with a target on his back for a long time. He's not catering to the fanbase, and he will even shine a light on the ugly warts we can display (i.e. the cracks about blaming Shanahan for the team's woes rings very true).
Like eveything else I read, I like some stuff, I don't like other stuff. I agree with some of it, I disagree with some of it. I'm glad to have him contributing here, even though some people can't withold their disdain for stuff he's written/said in the past and make it hard to have a civil discussion with the man.

I don't mind KPD at all. I very rarely agree with him, but unlike most of the other "insiders" who've posted here, he at least will argue a point and doesn't whine like a baby when you disagree with him. Too many of the other guys seemingly got bent out of shape if you dared question or disagree with them. That to me is far weaker than a guy who uses the same tired cliches repeatedly and comes off as more than a little jaded at times in his articles. He's at least willing to try and back up his point. The same can't be said for all the other guys.
I like KPD. I disagree with his view on the Bruins WAY more often than I agree with him, but I still feel that he's an excellent writer and an articulate poster who will take the time to understand a competing viewpoint.
I think the key challenge he faces is that he tends to be pessimistic about this team and this franchise, and that's going to rub "fans" the wrong way, by necessity. Whether he espouses these opinions just to ruffle feathers, to inspire debate, or both, he gets the job done.
I think it's important that some of you differentiate between a guy with critical perspectives whose trying to incite debate and a "hack", like Shaughnessy for example. Shaughnessy often submits poorly thought-out crap. KPD might never give the Bruins enough credit, he might leap to criticize them more than they deserve, but he's still insightful on the game. He's still frequently observing something some of us have yet to see. That's what makes him a quality writer, IMO.

ODAAT are you sure we aren't related somehow? You seem to post exactly what I am thinking more often than not.
As for Mr Dupont I am going to take a page out of my mother's advice book- if you can't say anything nice about someone, shut up.
The fact of the matter is he's as big a fan as you are I. He also has papers to sell. That being said, I find myself agreeing with him 99% of the time. He's not a pom pom waver and he calls it like he sees them, case by case, and I think thay irks most here. Doesn't make him any less of a fan however...He holds players, management and ownership accountable...no big thing in that.

Well said.
Also, I think some may be developing their opinion based on his posts here at HFBoards, and quite frankly if you can't see his motives 99% of the time, you need help.
As a writer he's rock solid, even if I tend to disagree with most of his opinions.

On a somewhat related note, are there any Boston hockey writers/media members who don't take an absurd amount of flack around here? KPD, Murph, Naoko, Jack, Dale... the list goes on. I think the only one who I've never seen get criticized around these parts is Brick.

haggs
because he is best of the bunch in regards to hockey media in Boston.

are you serious?
Dupont couldn't carry Shaughnessy's Jock (or pen in this instance).
