Kenny Albert as a TV pbp?

Sam Rosen is getting up there in age. So, I'm just wonderin' about what everyone here thinks of Kenny Albert eventually taking over as the TV pbp announcer on Rangers MSG telecasts?

Nah, it'll either be Howie, Kenny, or John Giannone (God help us).

Howie Rose, Kenny would be a close second, but good god, no Giannone.

i would love kenny, but doing radio gives him way more flexibility to call the 30 other sports that he does.

1. Howie
2. Kenny
3. Bob Wischusen
4. Someone who's not currently on the MSG networks.

Sam's 65, I'm sure he'll go a few more years.

Howie, Kenny and Sam all have dual-sport conflicts. Sam is getting old, so he'll probably stop doing NFL because of the travel. Albert is the 1a PBP for Fox. Howie has the Mets.

I'm kinda sick of the doctored Albert voice. I never like Marv on the radio, and Kenny is better suited for TV.

Gimme Howie and Maloney in the TV booth, send Micheletti to NBC, and Kenny and Leetch in the radio booth.

Howie is easily the biggest die-hard Rangers fan of any broadcaster in the world, but he's also the most critical. That's why I like him. Every year the Rangers were eliminated from the playoffs or playoff contention, Howie would open his radio show with a 20-minute rant about how pathetic the Rangers were, how pathetic the FO was, how pathetic the Garden was etc. You could tell he had just finished kicking in his TV screen before he went on the air.

Actually Howie got squeezed on radio by Marv's kid which is one of the reasons he left the for the Islanders. Back in the 1990s, Marv still had a lot of juice with Garden management. That's why he came out of nowhere to broadcast the 7th game in 1994. Howie's stature in the market was much lower than it is now.

Anyone who followed the Rangers in the 1990s knows Howie was (and hopefully will someday again be) the soul of the franchise. He was close to Neil Smith and in fact campaigned on the air for Neil to get the GM job. And the bottom line is Howie's a great hockey announcer while Kenny at best is mediocre. Unfortunately, I have to listen to way too many games on radio and I regularly wince at how far Kenny is behind the play.

Howie Rose is great. He needs to get the job. I like Kenny on the radio, but when Sam retires, the job better go to Howie. He's paid his dues and then some.

Absolutely.

Howie Rose is no spring chicken, either, though. But I agree, he has paid his dues.

Put me in the Kenny Albert or Howie Rose camp. I think either one would be great.

As for Sam, love the guy, I literally grew up watching Ranger games with his call going back to the mid-late 80's. But lets call a spade a spade here, his performance and ability to concisely call the action has really slipped the past few years. Its cringe-worthy sometimes.

he took the Islanders job because if got him in front of the Camera, where most of these guys want to be.

Radio is nice, but doing the TV broadcast is where guys want to be.

That said, when you have his voice, and his skills as a PBP guy and the fact that he likes the sport alot, you have a guy that will not last very long in Radio.

He would be great to replace Sam.

The thought of Howie being Sam's successor occurred to me as well. But the problem is that he's already 58. If Sam hangs on to the TV pbp gig for a few more years, Howie will then be well into his 60s.

Howie is a fine announcer who bleeds Ranger blue. But I have the feeling that a case of bad timing may rob him of the opportunity to land his dream job.

Gimme Howie also.. He might've been critical on HIS own radio show which wasn't controlled by Dolan, but no way he'll be as critical if he gets the gig.. Remember what happened to Marv with the Knicks?? Dolan ran him out of town!!

The thing is, I doubt the Rangers would take anyone older than his 40s. Howie is older, they're not going to have him be the Rangers voice for 5 years. Kenny is in his 40s, Wischusen is in his 40s and *gulp* Giannone is in his 40s.

I think those would be your top 3 contenders.
