Jagr's final games

So i made a bet with my friend before the season started.. I said that Jagr will score 0.7+ pts per game and he said that nah he's too old.

At some point of the season it looked like i would win it easily, but now that he's had only 6 points in last 15 games + the injury problems during the season this will be very close.

Now, assuming Jagr plays the last 8 games it comes down to if he can score 4 points in those games, but the schedule isnt easy.. Pens x2, Rangers, Sabres, Bolts x2, Habs and Sens.

I havent been able to watch Flyers games at all lately and im wondering how is he looking. He seems to get good minutes but the points just isnt coming. What do you guys think?

he isn't getting as much minutes as he was used to but he is looking great.
Tho i didn't watch last 2 games due to time zones.
I can easily say he is quite unlucky, he is making some awesome plays but not getting goal of it, then he is hitting posts and stuff like that..

Im looking forward to play offs to see what he is going to show.

but if i could bet i would say you are going to win, hopefully
Don't forget Jagr seems extra motivated against Pens, always shoting more against them than other teams

I really want to bring back the Jagr thread with all of jags6868's glory in a couple weeks. IIRC, my predictions were pretty on, so were many others.

I'm not bashing him. He's been quite good all year.

If Doan is available (somehow, Yotes future is very uncertain) I would go for Doan.

imo a much better option.

Cant complain about Jagr, he brought Giroux and Hartnell together on the 1st line and these three have done nothing all year but get points.
Resign Jagr for sure.

They are simply resting Jagr. He's been great. Using his big frame to hold onto the puck, cylce and generate chances. However he's old.
I'm sure the coach basically said, I'm going to rest you a bit down the stretch here cause we need you at 110% in the playoffs.

I think he'll get the 4 points

If he's willing to take 3.3 mil again I say re-sign him unless it comes down to a Jagr vs D thing

Before the season I took the over on Over/Under 64.5 points from him...unfortunately it looks like I'm going to lose, but I've been impressed with his play this year.

#1. Doan is on a very low scoring and in very d-sive oriented system.
#2. Doan is much younger.
#3. Doan throws 200-250 hits a season and plays in all situation.
#4. Doan is an excellent forechecker and will drop the gloves.
#5. Doan will set an excellent example for young players just like Jagr.

Doan is a much better option going forward.

Any fool can check TSN.ca stats and make an opion of a player. If both players were 30 years old it's an easy decision. Jagr wins.

If Giroux would freaking shoot the puck Jagr might have had a few more assists recently.

Jagr needs to shoot it himself more too, he keeps trying to go through too many players lately.

so?
#2. Doan is much younger.
yeah Jagr was potting 100+ points when he was at his age, Doan lose
#3. Doan throws 200-250 hits a season and plays in all situation.
Doan throws hits, Jagr can solo thro whole team and score or set a chance
#4. Doan is an excellent forechecker and will drop the gloves.
since when is droping gloves making team win?, Jagr is great forechecker too
#5. Doan will set an excellent example for young players just like Jagr.
lol. So you are really trying to compare Doan to Jagr are you?

Doan is a much better option going forward.
Because you say so, right

Jagr is 40 and he still wins

Jagr has been alright. He tries to much lately, and you can see he is a step or two behind than he was at the beginning of the season. At 40 yrs old though, you can expect that to happen. At the beginning of the season, other players barely took the puck off of him while now it's happening a little more. The whole team isnt scoring as much, but you can't blame Jagr's play on them. He isnt getting "unlucky" when he doesnt dangle through 3 people. He SHOULD get 4 points the next few games though.

But yea, if I had to choose, at this moment I would also take Doan. He would make as much as a contribution to the team as Jagr has but we would have him longer. Sorry to say, but I can say with great confidence Jagr doesnt have 3 or so years left in him. Doan is 5 years younger and I can see him playing for 3 more years. Cant see him leaving the Yotes though.

Enough with the geezers, let the kids take over next year and say buh-bye to Jagr and Kubina.

everyone is entitled to their own opinions. if you want a discussion thats fine but there is no need for comments like this IMO.

I would also choose Doan over Jagr but since Doan likely won't leave the Yotes I'd re-sign Jagr as long as he takes 3.3 mil again assuming he is still productive in the playoffs.

OK, it'd be cool if we could have a Jagr thread that doesn't devolve into a pissing match between the usual two groups. I'll re-open this after the pee has been mopped up.

OK. Let's try this thread again. No more BS, let's keep it civil, and try to have a rational discussion. I'll just start threadbanning or infracting from now on. Everybody cool? Tell your fellow posters to be cool.

Jags play was not very good lately. At least statisticaly. He created some nice chances (as well as some turnovers sometimes). He has the same 2 points like Briere in last 5 games which is really sad but I still think he is much better than Briere on the ice even if they have the same stats. They should be more "selfish" with Roo sometimes and shoot much more. If not, I would try Voracek on the first line instead of Jagr for couple of games. I am looking forward the playoffs where he usually plays much better. If he doesn´t than its a bad sign.

As for the post season Jagr should not be and probably wont be the main issue to be addressed by the management. I would like Jagr to sign for one more year. I know he will not probably drop the gloves like Doan but I still think he can be very valuable to this group of young forwards and the team on/off the ice. At the same time I would like to see some nice gesture from him and offer some paycut to 2.3-2.5 mil. USD per year.

The guy is obviously having a good effect on the young guys on the team. It seems he's going to be around the NHL next year -- if the Flyers don't want him, somebody else will offer him a deal because he's clearly got something left in the tank. I think he does more good than bad.

If he's willing to sign a reasonable 1-year deal, I say keep him.

I love Doan...love him. I'd love to have him in Philly. I honestly think every bone in his body is commited to Phoenix...

but I will say this....

Have you ever seen Jagr handle a puck? I would put Jagr, Doan, two sticks and a puck on a sheet of ice....and I'd laugh as Jagr easily plays keepaway with Doan. I'm not saying this means Jagr is more valuable. I'm just saying that for his 10 year age difference...the man still has game and skill. He's already said money is not an issue and he love's playing in Philadelphia.

Almost every one of you argues the value of the Jagr-Hartnell-Giroux line...I'm sorry...but I don't think Doan replaces him there.

If I can't have both...and I already know money's not an issue on a one-year deal for Jagr...I take Jagr because I'm looking ahead knowing I need start thinking about Hartnell's after next year...I want Carle....absolutely want Grossman..and want to re-sign Voracek...Simmonds...the way Wellwood is playing...he's absolutely worth a contract...I probably want to make a play for LeTang to replace Timonen...aka Cap issues.
