Kubina..

What do you think so far? We traded 2nd & 4th to get him. Is he worth it?

In 9 games with the Flyers 2pts, +1, 4PIM, averaging 2 hits per game and a little over 18min of ice time. Other numbers: TK 1, BS 14, GV 2, SOG 14.

Would you re-sgn him and for how much or how long? Overall opinion?

I think it's worth it. It's at the upper limit of what I wanted to pay, but I didn't want to make the big splash moves. With the injury to Mesz, the 2 moves seem even more important.

As for re-signing him. He will be a 35+ contract, so if we do consider it, it NEEDS to be a good one. Short term, reasonable dollars.

Playoff performance is key. If he gets the job done there, we look at an extension. Otherwise, probably better off using the cap space elsewhere.

Yea. I certainly look to Grossmann before Kubina. We have some decisions to make this offseason, Kubina is one of them, but not one of the more critical ones.

Me. I am going to wait until after the playoffs before I pass judgement. But right now if I had to make a choice. I would sign him for one year two tops at a low cap hit.

Signing Grossmann has to be done.

I am hoping for more from Kubina in the playoffs. Grossman has exceeded my expectations. With Carle, Coburn and Mesz consistently inconsistent in their play, a consistent defense only d man is refreshing.

I would still like to see him used a lot more on the power play. It seems like he's exactly what we need....

Heavy, righty shot.

Meszaros is out.

Power Play has been struggling.

Why don't they use him more? Just trying to work him in gradually?

Playoffs will dictate his future but I would say he walks, I was hoping to see more shots from the point, granted he has been hurt and had that layoffs prior to joining us and the fact that Grossmann has been that good prolly has us comparing the two.

Let him walk. He's nothing spectacular. I want to see more of Manning, Bourdon and Gustafsson.

Let him walk. If he's over 35, which I think he is, we'll have another Lilja on our hands. We need to bring down the average age of our dmen starting with signing Grosmann if he wants to stay, and ditching Carle.

Too early

Too early even thinking about extending him imho.

A lot of thinks can happen in the playoffs and in the offseason.

Players get injured, rookies step up and play like studs. Carle may look for a big paycheck elsewhere, Kimmo may be headed to retirement if his back doesn't hold up, Prongs may or may not attempt to come back, Suter may or may not hit the market...

They need to sort out what can be done with Carle and Grossmann first. In the worst case, none of them wants to resign for reasonable money and all of a sudden Kubina becomes a indespensable veteran presence.

Kubina has been fine. I would be fine with something like this next year:

Timonen-Mezaros
Coburn-Grossmann
Kubina-Gustafsson

As long as Kubina takes a reasonable 35+ deal

Carle will most likely be resigned. Don't turn this into a Carle thread. I only say that because it leaves one less spot on the blueline.

Nothing against Kubina, but I would rather grow Manning, Gus, Bourdon and save 2 million dollars against the cap. Lots of people to resign.

I was against getting him, and still am not a huge fan of what we gave up for him (with a lot of solid talent in the draft falling to the 2nd round), but I've liked what he's been able to do so far and I'd bring him back for a reasonable price

Grossmann (3.0m/4years) - Coburn
Timonen - Meszaros
Kubina (3.0m/1y) - Gustafsson

Draft a couple D-Men, go hard at Suter if he gets away from NSH, go hard at Weber in a trade offer (Dangle guys like Mez, Carle's rights, Read, JvR, Bob and our picks)

ideal (but highly unlikely):
Trade 1st, 2013 1st, Read, Meszaros (or something of that sort) for Weber
Trade Carle for a 1st or 2nd
Trade Bob for a 1st or 2nd
Package those two picks for a higher pick

Hope for Reinhart/Ceci, etc.

Coburn-Weber
Timonen-Grossmann
Gustafsson-Kubina
Lilja

edit: perhaps this should have gone in the 12-13 lineup thread
