I thought Aucoin has been been playing very well, and even great if he gets a goal or SO goal last night. I wouldn't be opposed to Wideman having a seat for Orlov. Not that Wideman has been playing awful, but Orlov was playing good and shouldn't sit to long.

Semin was taking the optional skate this morning per Tarik. Not sure on the Eakin call up. I hope he is pulling an Orlov right now because it will not be pretty if he continues his AHL play in the NHL.

If he's benched a two time league MVP twice, you think he wouldn't have the balls to sit an "all start"? C'mon man.

I'm talking about scratching.

hunter is pretty transparent. wideman played 23:46 last night. 2nd high on the team. seeing that, you can see that hunter has no intention whatever of scratching wideman. he'd cut his ice time first. carlson only played 16 minutes last night and has been removed from the pk. if anyone is going to get scratched right now, its him.

Sure Ward is doing next to nothing on the offensive end but his defensive work is excellent. Anyone remember Jan Erixon? Well apparently his second coming is wearing 42 for the Caps...
I don't think anyone would disagree with your statement that he's been solid on the d-end .... but the issue is with his contract and how additional money can be spent elsewhere. People make the same argument for Laich .... it's really no different.

To Add: If he played on special teams he probably wouldn't be criticized as harshly.

I'm not talking about his contract I am talking about him not getting a jersey tonight or in the near future. They aren't freeing up any cap space by parking him in the pressbox this season.

Then perhaps I've missed the criticism specific to his play, the only thing I can say negatively is aligned with your statement ... he's had little to no offensive contribution. If he maintains this production throughout the duration of his contract it would be a failed signing because he was thought to have brought more to the table.

I guess that's where the thought is regarding him being scratched. We aren't giving up a ton of goals, so if we can maintain that style of play ... why not replace him with someone who is multifaceted (some offense and special teams)

Based on what? Last year 10 goals and 29 points. I'm not saying he isn't down some from his previous production numbers but he isn't down that much.

Last regular season game I'll be going to this year as I gave my tickets to the Sabres game to some family members.

Crowd needs to get in to this early and mirror the "We are louder" atmosphere from Game 5 of last year's first round against the Rangers. See some suggestions on the internet, such as a "Phoenix is better" chant.

No Semin, Caps will need offensive support from the blue line along with some of the "not the usual suspects".

Go Caps Go!

this.

And the fact that he's a defensive player is what made his goal-scoring outburst in the playoffs last year so impressive. In the tighter defensive world of playoff hockey, he was thriving.

He's a good PKer so not sure why he isn't getting time. As for Laich, he's not nearly as solid defensively as Ward, but he has more offensive game. So they are both overpaid, but I think Ward earns his money in terms of defense and Laich offers a mediocre game at both ends of the ice.

Yeah thats what I heard too. But then again...why call up Eakin if there was a good chance Semin could play?

The Caps' collective foot is on the Jets' throat. Just stomp down.

Hey! Last game I attended was the TB one that they won in OT. I'm looking for improvement from that, a win in regulation. Actually, I want it to be a "wings night" for Caps fans.

Yes, but as you said it's not that far off. Special teams is really what I'm thinking. Again using Laich as a comparison .... inflated contract for what's expected but at least he plays all 3 phases of the game.

Perhaps it's not the same as it would have been under BB (and I'm not going to bother looking up the #'s) I would have assume by default of switching teams (Caps from Preds) his offensive numbers would've increased. Yes, I know the system change but still.

Just kidding, enjoy! I hope we win tonight and on Tuesday, but if there would be a choice i would take W vs Buffalo.

why not call him up as a precaution. particularly if the team wanted to see how semin's injury responded to his skate, they would have to wait til after the skate to see. right?

so, eakin. my guess is that eakin was called up because somebody in the lineup in philly is scratched v the jets regardless of whether semin can play or not.

Perhaps Eakin is a shootout specialist.

Please tell me Holtby is playing tonight. There is no reason for anyone else to be between the pipes in this crucial game.

Someone needs to put Big Daddy is his place. But I've given up hope for this team in that aspect.

"Michal Neuvirth also skated this morning and worked with goalie Coach Olie Kolzig. Braden Holtby, however, did not practice after making a second consecutive start Thursday in Philly."
