Its not that rolling 4 lines is a bad strategy or doesn't work. I just prefer what you outlined.
the caps have a shootout specialist. #26. hunter often skates 3 lines and leaves his 4th as healthy scratches in pads with better seats. he often only skates 5 defense with the 6th sharing popcorn with the backup goalie.

i know you want a heavy something fierce.

even with that it was 20 and 21 that were getting the minutes bump and not 8.

RE Fedorov:

The guy was great here. But in the Pens series it showed he was clearly out of gas. Great player with a great career who really helped the Caps get over the hump. But it was the right move to let him walk..especially at $4 million.

I know about Hendricks. I want another guy in addition to him seeing as how everyone else pretty much sucks at the shootout except maybe for Semin.

Yeah a heavy would be real nice. But it seems like the NHL is moving further and further away from them. A brashear in his prime would be amazing tho.

most players are under .500 in the shootout. ovechkin and semin plus backstrom and johansson going forward are just fine lined up behind 26. now.....i am not sure what huntsie was thinking throwing brouwer out with the game on the line.

No doubt most are. But lets face it..we've sucked at the shootout since Kozlov departed despite having Hendricks for a good portion of that time.

Not sure Semin is coming back next year. Ovechkin and Backstrom are ok at the shootout but we have basically nothing after that.

RE Brouwer: I thought that about Aucoin too...but really..what options did he have? Most of our team sucks at it.

Who knew those two were keeping the Young Guns from self destructing?

this sort of brings me back to a previous complaint. the last couple of OT's or more it seems like hunter has the team playing for the shootout. the previous OT beagle played every other shift while semin sat on the bench for the entire session and johansson skated one shift. this past OT ovechkin skated two shifts only. johansson who's speed is a real advantage with all that skating room got one shift again.

by all evidence the caps dont try and win in OT which i just dont get. though, it fits the new team game plan which is first not to lose and try and win when the opportunity opens up.

Every play starts with a faceoff. If any of his "offensive" centers were respectable in the faceoff dot, maybe he wouldnt be singing such a defensive tune.

backstrom was still playing at the time and is sent out to take defensive zone PK face offs. if he can take an d zone pk face off, i'd think it was safe for him to take a offensive zone face off against a totally gassed line post icing. geez....

besides, he chose laich to take the face off who's fo% is not as good as backstrom's. whats the next excuse? this one failed.

lastly, that was just a small example of the overall match up madness. as of today 8's average toi is 19:36 and 21's is 18:34. last season in a non matching world 8 averaged 3 more minutes a game than 21. you are a guy that likes the matchup. this is the price you pay

Would be great if the crowd, at one point, broke into a "Same Old Thrashers" to counter the folk in the Peg.

I think a simple "Thrashers suck" would be the perfect thing, personally.
