He's not as bad as Lilja though! Yes we need to bring down the avg age indeed, but without Lilja and Pronger next season we have this:

Timonen will be 37 at the start of next season.
Kubina, 37.
Carle, 28.
Coburn, 27.
Grossmann, 27.
Meszaros, 27.

(Gustafsson, 23. 24 in Dec)
(MAB, 22. 23 in Nov)

When I look at this list I hope we get a fine D-prospect in the upcoming draft!

Even if prorated, Kubina's cap hit for this year is 3.85 million. Seems unreasonable to pay him anything like that here. It would need to be radically lower.

Lilja makes 737,500.

I don't think the different between the two in talent is 3 worth million dollars for the minutes they would log. That's resigning Jagr money.

I would certainly not pay him as much as he's making right now. He's been pretty average but I wouldn't mind having him back for a fair price if he does well in the playoffs. Like others have said, our priority should be on Grossmann first though.

JVR's cap hit is gonna be 4.25 next season as opposed to the 1.65 he's making now.

Grossmann (3.0m/4years) - Coburn
Timonen - Meszaros
Kubina (3.0m/1y) - Gustafsson

Draft a couple D-Men, go hard at Suter if he gets away from NSH, go hard at Weber in a trade offer (Dangle guys like Mez, Carle's rights, Read, JvR, Bob and our picks)

ideal (but highly unlikely):
Trade 1st, 2013 1st, Read, Meszaros (or something of that sort) for Weber
Trade Carle for a 1st or 2nd
Trade Bob for a 1st or 2nd
Package those two picks for a higher pick

Hope for Reinhart/Ceci, etc.

Coburn-Weber
Timonen-Grossmann
Gustafsson-Kubina
Lilja

edit: perhaps this should have gone in the 12-13 lineup thread
We're going to get a 1st for Carle's rights?

I think Kubina has been pretty decent so far. I hope we don't re-sign him, however. Until Suter either re-signs with Nashville or signs with someone else, I'm hoping we can land him. If we do that, and re-sign Grossmann, I don't see a place for Kubina on next year's team.

As for him not being used on the PP. It might be that while he has a bomb of a shot, it takes a little bit too long for him to release it these days. I don't know. I wouldn't mind seeing him on the second PP instead of Carle, though it might be a bit risky to have Kubina out there as the only dman. If he hadn't been out injured when we had that PP slump he might have been given more of a chance perhaps.

Yeah what happened there? I saw Kubina getting into a few scrums but I missed how they started.

To me it looked like Gorges pushed Kubina and Kubina dropped his gloves. At that point Gorges had the "oh ****, what did I do?!" face.

New CBA will proably stop us from signing Suter but u never know his cap hit will b large and dont like with not knowing where the cap will b after the new CBA would rather resign Kubina for a less amount.
