This has been a strange year in the eastern conference. For more than a couple months the Bruins destroyed everybody they played and looked like they absolutely could not be stopped. Then Thomas came back to earth, they got a bit tired and have been pretty bad. Then the same thing with the Rangers - Lundqvist was unbeatable for months and now he looks beatable and at times not that sharp like last night against the Sabres. Now you have the Penguins - running over everybody at what seems like the perfect time to do so... unless they're just a couple weeks too early and Fleury starts to leak (we can hope)
So now the Flyers look strong - not like the Bruins or Rangers did or the Penguins do now - but very good - and with arguably the best goalie for the past month. And it looks to me like the Rangers will slip to the 4 spot having only a point over the Pens who have a game in hand.
That would mean a first round matchup with the Rangers which would be a difficult series to pick. I hope the Flyers can get to 4th and push the Rangers to 5th as home ice could be the deciding factor. With any luck the last game of the season may be meaningless to the Penguins and could mean home ice to the Flyers.
Anyway I was going to start a thread about this but figured nobody would read it there either...
