BTW, I just realized today we still 100% control our destiny because we play the Pens. If we run the table and even beat Pitt in OT we get the 1 seed. Chances are Pitt drops a game or 2, so we can as well as long as beat Pitt. I'm not very confident, but it's a little comforting.

Home advantage is obviously something we want, but if we finish 4th after being 1st pretty much all year I think there's a definite mental part of it that's going to dent the team's confidence

Seriously, we should be thankful for the great hockey we've witnessed the majority of the season. I too want to see this team finish 1st but if they don't I won't be too upset it's a heck of a lot better than 8th.

So enough of the debbie downer crap.
When you've lead the conference for three months straight and you're about to cough it up in the last two weeks, yes, it's a big deal. Also not having home ice throughout the playoffs devastates our chances of beating the Penguins, who will surely be waiting in the ECF.

That's what I meant. If a team went to the cup it meant they were in the finals. If they win the cup then they won it.

Heartbreaking sure, but that big of a deal? Probably not to anyone outside of the fans. If they drop to 4th and dwell on that going into the playoffs they'll be one and done anyway.

Anyone who doesn't think there is a difference between playing Philly in a beat the hell out of eachother round 1, vs playing one of those bottom teams, is crazy IMO

There most definitely is a difference, but we seem to be in Philly's head. I don't like what the crowd brings in Winnipeg; that could be a struggle. Buffalo is a wildcard, and of course, Washington seems to find another gear when they play against us.

Only difference being we have home ice advantage.

The Rangers need a strong finish to the season, they need momentum going into the playoffs.

We're probably going to go in as a cold 4 seed.

IMO you dont give up the chance to finish 1st overall in the EC.

Like Herm said, you play to win the games. Because the Rangers have been so dominant at home this season, and they rely so heavily on their defense matchups, you want to have that advantage throughout the playoffs.

So, yes, it is extremely important to finish 1st.

This thread is the reason why we'll finish first.

its important to me because i dont want to hear all the pens fans i know saying something to the effect of "what happened to your Rangers? derpyderpyderp?!"

that would kill me.

anybody calling this a "collapse" is a moron. Fact of the matter is we'd be far ahead in any other division in the east, not to mention how many times we had to play the flyers/pens this season.

The Penguins are in line to go on a Patriots/Spurs-like run, assuming they can stay healthy. They're better than the Rangers. They might be the best team. There simply isn't enough evidence to expect the Rangers to be better than them. They have better players.
4th is exactly where the Rangers should be. It's only disappointing to not finish in first in the sense that the Pens were without Crosby for most of the season.

thiiiiiiiiisssss.

end of the season, teams are stepping up their games. if you're one of the teams pumping the breaks going into the post season it sends the wrong message.

Yes of course the teams playing well magically "decided" to play better because it's the end of March and the Rangers decided to just chill out. This idea that teams get to pick when they're on hot/cold streaks are is laughable.

According to the standings though, you're wrong! Only the standings matter!

was hard to tell if you were agreeing or not. in the case that you weren't, i just want to add that i wasn't saying the Rangers were pumping the breaks on purpose. but this is how it's playing out for them right now.
