The defense on this team is awful. One of O'Brien and Wilson needs to go. I would likely keep Wilson, but O'Brien is more solid.
It might be because I'm sick of seeing Duchene put the Avs in bad situations when he decides to spin around, or make the extra move instead of the smart move. Stop trying to make the highlight reel and make the less pretty, but better play.

I have to say, I was very impressed with O'reily tonight.

Very noticable defensively and offensively

I think Foote and Duchene had to do it after we lost 8-2 to the Canucks one year.

You just can't blame this one on just one player (Duchene or Barrie), the team had a 2-0 in the 2nd and just sat back and allowed 2 very quick goals...It was just simply unacceptable play by a team that is trying to secure a playoff birth.

They have now put themselves in this position of having to win-out just so they're not mathematically eliminated, but it doesn't really matter. Any time that the Avs have needed help from other teams not going to a 3pt game, it doesn't happen, and that game becomes a 3-pointer. And then when they DO get some help, they s**t the bed. (Columbus home loss, Phoenix last game, etc.)

Perhaps we were all fools for thinking that they could play good down the stretch here and sneak in...but it's looking more and more unrealistic.

Good effort boys, but I think it's time to forget about the postseason. Play for pride and to keep that pick as low as possible.

Its a relative statement. Solid in comparison to the rest of this year. He didn't cause a goal and was on the ice for one for.

Everyone on the planet wants that. I think he will get there. You have to give to get though. I would want a proven top 2 d-man back in any trade.

Even then we'll need help. Every team we are fighting against seems to be in three-point games. Not going to be easy even if they go perfect.

We got 1 point instead of 2, why is everyone so negative, didn't expect them to go 6-0.

5-0 or 4-0-1 is enough to make it.

Duchene has had a bad stretch of hockey and made some major gaffes tonight, but you guys are being over the top. I remember a time when people brought up the_fan's "duchene a bust?" thread as a joke because of how ridiculous and reactionary it was.

Or when O'Reilly struggled last year, or when Stastny struggled early this year, etc.

He's young and will go through rough spots. He's also clearly injured. Don't be stupid.

This wasn't even a bad game by the Avalanche. The dominated for the most part.

But the first Chris Higgins goal was soft and took the wind out of their sails, and the play in overtime was putrid. A needless Wilson turnover followed by an even worse Duchene turnover followed by soft play by Barrie leading to a soft goal against by Varlamov.

2nd straight game the Avs dominate for the majority of play, and lose. That was a weak goal to end it too. Varly has to stop that. Turnover or not, he has to make that save.

Once again the Avs manage to make a ****** goalie look like a Vezina winner.

I don't know how can anybody question Duchene's desire and saying he wasn't trying. Effort is not the issue with him. In fact, he probably needs to relax a bit, stop gripping his stick so tight and realize he doesn't need to do everything by himself. But he was certainly engaged tonight and tried to make stuff happen. At the end of the day, I'd rather have that then someone who's tentative/invisible. He's just as frustrated with his play as anybody here.

So we still have a chance but we have to win out and get 96 points.

Im sure Duchenes more frustrated than we are right now. You can just tell how much pressure he has on himself when he whiffeed on a few golden opportunities to shoot the puck
