Gaborik is 5th NYR w/100 goals in 1st 3 years

Quote:
Marian Gaborik scored two goals for the Rangers. The goals were the 100th and 101st for Gaborik in the three seasons since he signed with the Rangers as a free agent on July 1, 2009. Gaborik is only the fifth player to score 100 or more goals over his first three seasons with the Rangers, joining Adam Graves (114), Steve Vickers (105), Phil Esposito (101) and Mike Gartner (100) in that exclusive club.
http://espn.go.com/blog/nhl/post/_/i...ght-game-facts

42 goals in 09-10. 22 goals in 10-11. 37 goals so far this season.

Sather took a risk giving Gaborik a 5 year contract worth $7.5M per. Slats had some inside info on Gaborik from Doug Risebrough who had been fired as Wild GM. Risebrough works the Rangers as a consultant. They worked together in Edmonton. Risebrough knew Gaborik's medical issues better than anyone. Gaborik had hip surgery in the winter of 09 and he came back looking stronger than ever. You know Risebrough told Sather that and Sather gave Gaborik 5 years/$37.5M.

He was awesome last night. The Rangers could use another threat like him but for now he has a lot of pressure on him to score goals.

Marian Gaborik is a player with flaws. Big deal. Almost all players do in one form or another and no matter what anyone says, the guy is an elite scorer and the best we have. He has a decent chance of hitting 40 goals in 2 of 3 seasons here which is more than acceptable. We all get that but one poster's irrational hatred for the guy is beyond comprehension.

Its sad that Gaborik is just the 5th player to have 100 goals in his first 3 years as a Ranger. The team has been around since 1926. Its only the 7th time they have had a 100 point season. That's pathetic. I remember when they won their first division title in 1990. Their first since 1942.

Its sad that we didn't have a good team last year because he could have potentially surpassed the 1st player on that list with a strong performance last year.

I like these kind of stats. I wonder how it stacks up against other teams. The Oilers have 4-
Gretzky--Anderson---Simpson-- Kurri. Maybe it's more impressive than we think!!!

Do they not count Jagr cause he played in 31 games in his "first season" with the Rangers? He scored 15 goals in those games then followed it up with 54 and 30. That's 99 goals in his first "3" seasons but they're not full seasons. The following year he scored 25 (and it did take 5 games for him to get his first). So it took him 2 full seasons and 36 games to notch 100. I think somebody needs to give Jags the credit he deserves.

Pierre Larouche should be on that list as well. We can blame Ted Sator & Espo for that. He got 20 in 28 to end 85-86 after being burried in the minors for some reason. Idiots.

Then again, we would have made the finals that year if it wasn't for Patrick Roy. He was awesome in the 86 Cup run.

Espo got shortchanged a bit because he had already scored 6 goals in 12 games for Boston when he was traded.

Woah Gartner got short changed big time because his first season as a Ranger was only 12 games. He scored 11 goals in those 12 games.

Well, the Rangers started in a league where everyone played 44 games. Then it was upped to 48. Then 60. It didn't even get to 70 games until 1949-50... and even then you would have to win 50 of 70 games to get to 100 points. That and there were no "loser points".

Toronto has only done it 3 times.
Chicago has done it 8 times.

Montreal, Detroit, and Boston have done it 16, 17, and 19 times respectively.

Not a big deal at all. The Rangers had the 54 year drought but a lot of those years the league was unfairly skewed towards the success of the Canadian teams. For 40 years until expansion, the Cup was won by Toronto or Montreal 22 times. For the first 10 years after expansion, the Canadiens won the Cup 6 times.

The Rangers have a had a very successful and proud history. Stop bashing your own team.

Anyhoo... Marian Gaborik has been nothing short of awesome in his time here. I hope he keeps it up and signs an extension, actually. Unlike many big signings of the past, I really feel like Marian is a true blue Ranger. He turned down 8 years 80 million from the Wild then came to NY for 5 years at 7 per.

As for 2010-11... he was hurt all year... and YOU try putting up 40 goals playing with Alexander Frolov and Erik Christensen.
