I'd rather take a 2nd and a decent prospect than another team's late 1st. You're not getting a pick between 1 and 20 for Douglas Murray and I wouldn't trust this organization to make a pick with that late 1st rounder anyway.

I agree that Murray could get more but the offer is close enough that it's not really worth the time arguing it/debating his worth.

35th overall + prospect vs. a late 1st

Not much of a difference there.

Wasn't Couture a late first rounder?

I agree it's a good package. Cranky is top 4 on many teams, has been solid in that role for us many years. But with Stuart all but saying he wants to wear teal again, he's expendable.

Also, anyone else notice Vlasic stepping up for some hits more often hits lately? I think he's missed every one of them, but keep praticing fella! You'll figure it out.

No, Couture was a top ten pick.

But we did trade up as I recall, which is something we could also do with an extra first.

We traded up from 14 to 9. Big difference from a late first.

It's worth what it's worth. taking a second and a prospect guarantees no more than taking a late first and using it to move up regardless of what it takes to move up further. A lot would depend on if we had someone specific targeted in the first that we thought we could get.

It's true, we could use it to trade up especially since we might have a late teen pick and combining the two might get us into the top ten. I don't think it could actually happen though. I would just like to get a little more quantity than quality out of the deals where we're trading off established players that aren't going to fit moving forward.

They do in Matt Nieto. Not just play in the NHL but excel.

Yeah but since he's here now in the organization, that means his number will soon be up and he'll get dealt before he comes close to the pro squad.

Ha! Good point.

"He scored how much? We better move him for a 3rd liner that's soon to be an UFA."
