As a Wings fan since 1983 and someone who moved to LA in 2000 and have been watching the Kings since (I've always kind of liked them since I was younger and they got Gretzky) the answer is no.
They might beat us in the playoffs (I was at that stupid game in 2001 at Staples Center) but they are still overrated and in the New NHL playoff seasons are glorified coin-flips. Simply put, their D sucks. Doughty has regressed, Johnson was traded and some of their prospects have busted. Matt Greene, a mainstay, is not an NHL d-man and he's been there for years.
Lombardi's talent assessment is the problem. New GM and maybe they have a shot. They do have some talent up front.

LA is the number Two Defensive team in the entire NHL....
If one thinks the Wings are boring, then a western conference team is not an answer by any means. On the contrary, the Wings are actually one of the most exciting teams in the West. And the Kings are very boring, much more boring than the Wings.
The Eastern conference, on the other hand, is more exciting.
Kinda what I was thinking...the Kings used to be a nemesis of the Wings to me they're just another Western team. I'll pay more attention the Sharks, Coyotes and Ducks given their recent history. Kings aren't irrelevant but I don't pick them out of the crowd.
because unlike the red wings they are entertaining to watch playing hockey?
You CAN'T be serious? Kings lose games 1-0 all season long, are offensively retarded, and you think a team with Pavel Datsyuk is less entertaining to watch?

At 2.07 Goals against....
The Kings play great team defense (They also have great goaltending). It's been their hallmark since Murray got there and tightened up their play. The team seemed to frustrate the other team from scoring while relying on 2-3 skilled players to score a goal here or there or crash the net and live off of garbage goals for offense. This has worked surprisingly well for the last few years, but this year has stalled.
The problem with their defense is that it doesn't generate the offense with the breakout pass and transition. That's what is killing them now.

Well that was certainly the case before the Carter trade. This month they are 8-2 with wins over Nasvhille (twice), St. Louis, Chicago and Detroit. Averaging 3.5 goals per game during the stretch, which ain't too shabby. They're playing really good hockey and if they have a lead after two periods it's nearly impossible to beat them. I'd like to see them get the 8 seed and play St. Louis, that would be an epic series.
They did lose tonight, only scored 2 goals, and Carter and Mike Richards both went -3. With that being said I want them to lock down the 8th spot for the playoffs.
dont be too shocked when the sharks or avs take their playoff spot.
I'm standing by my prediction that the Avs miss the playoffs. Both the Kings and Sharks have two games in hand on Colorado. 3 of the Avs' final 5 are on the road and 3 of the 5 are against playoff contenders (SJ, Vancouver, Nashville).
San Jose might struggle though as they close out with games against Phoenix, 2 against Dallas and 2 against Los Angeles. That's a pretty tough schedule.
The Kings last 7 include 1 against Vancouver and 2 against SJ. They also play games against Calgary, Edmonton (2) and Minnesota. Not a bad stretch at all. They've put themselves in good position to at least claim the #8 spot.

I just hope if SJ does make the playoffs, they are the 7/8 seed. If they end up winning their division.................ugh.
wonders why this thread isn't closed. He's just a Kings troll on a loser team.
because the kings can be our opponent should we advance to the second round. and they have the best record the past 10 games next to chicago. that is reason enough to speak about their strong and weak points.
if you believe we would wipe them out in 4 games its ok for you. but i doubt it.
i see them going into the playoffs as a 3rd place team.

I'm not going to jump on one loss to try and prove my point. Frankly probability said they were due and they played the Bruins.
I think getting better offensive players is a good start, but I'll start to think of them in the same breath (where they might "pass us" as a team) when they supplement their offensive top 6 depth with a better top 4 on D.

We could end up playing every team currently 1-11 in the WC standings in round two if we go by possible scenarios.
I have respect for LA but I don't think they have something special to be seen as a bigger threat than any other team we could possibly face. Lets see if they make the playoffs first, then we can talk about possibles.

If the wings can take at least 2p against SJ, they do look pretty good for an 8th. Either way, who cares?
