Stretch Run: Can we win the Atlantic

Code:

Date NYR PIT PHI
Pts 107 102 101
Mar24 tor ott MTL
Mar25 --- NJD ---
Mar26 --- --- TBY
Mar27 min NYI ---
Mar28 wpg --- ---
Mar29 --- nyi tor
Mar30 MTL buf ---
Mar31 --- --- OTT
Apr01 BOS PHI pit
Apr02 --- --- ---
Apr03 phi bos NYR
Apr04 --- --- ---
Apr05 pit NYR BUF
Apr06 --- --- ---
Apr07 WSH PHI pit

There is the remaining schedule. Whoever gets first in the Atlantic will have the big advantage of only having to beat one of the other 3. 5 & 4 is a big hole, but we do still have 3 games against the teams, if we win out we just need the Rangers to drop 4 points somewhere.

I think Pittsburgs going to win it. I think the Flyers have a chance at passing the Rangers though.

Then again we do play Pittsburg twice in the last week so you never know. They really cant afford to lose many games from now on if they want a chance though.

There is really no excuse for dropping points in the next 4 games. The problem is you can say the same about Pittsburgh's and New York's remaining March schedule. Just have to hope the Pens drop points to the Devils or Isles play them tough, and the Rangers drop some points to the Jets or something.

Anything's possible, but it's highly unlikely. The way pens are playing I can easily see them taking the lead. If we want to to take the lead, we need to step up in the last remaining games.

Edit: If rags continue to fall off, we probably have a good chance of surpassing them.

It's not impossible, but I wouldn't say it's likely

It's very possible that the Pens can overtake the Ranger and the Rangers take he fourth seed... I'd rather play the Hot Penguins that they Flyers CAN beat than the Rangers who the Flyers Can't seem to find a way to beat.

Best thing IMO is for the Flyers to play the best they possibly can play and hit the PostSeason on a high note... no matter the opponent.

The Flyers get the Rangers one more time, so that can change that game a little bit. They also go to Pittsburgh twice in the last week of the season. Plus, they get Buffalo and Ottawa which could be opponents in a 1/8 matchup. Hopefully get some things fine-tuned over the next week

I'd rather they start resting a few players for the playoffs.

Pens are the last game. I wonder if we take the division in a shootout? haha

Well, if the Pens even went 6-3 from here to the end, we would have to run the table. Odds are pretty tough at this point considering they havent even lost in regulation in a while.

But I guess if one or two teams stole a regulation win against them, we could control our fate considering we still have two games left against them.

Like Beef said, perfect scenario would be the Pens go 4-3-1 and we go 6-1 heading into the final game of the season. Then we could take a shootout win to tie them in points and beat them in ROW for the tiebreak. That would be something to get pumped about

The Pens have the best shot now, especially given the way they're playing.

The odds improve substantially for the Flyers if they win both games in Pittsburgh, though.

Easily the most tense sports related moment I've ever been a part of. I actually fell out of my chair when Brian Freaking Boucher won on the last save.

I'll take any opportunity to post that video

I met Glenn Anderson just days after the shootout. Being in Vancouver he understandably believed I was a Canuck fan and took a couple of digs at Vancouver's chances. When I took a couple myself, he asked: so who do you cheer for, then? I said: The Flyers. He said: .... oh; guess you were pretty happy Sunday, then.

I'm still bummed the Flyers didn't win it all in 2010. All the stars seemed to align, starting with that shootout.

I think it is a possibility but not very likely. They have to win the rest of their games vs. PIT and NYR for sure to even have a shot.

Flyers stay 5 points behind NYR, close to 2 points behind PIT. Flyers now control their own destiny against Pittsburgh.

Pens win the game in hand, so now we are back to 4/5 back ... Flyers the only game tomorrow.

F'ing Debs have been horrendous lately. Honestly, if there is one team (well other than Florida) that I would like to play its the Debs. Ya, they could do great during playoffs, but for the past few weeks they have been terrible, even during the games they win.

Yeah this is pretty wild. I don't think we'll catch the Rangers though.

Can we have a rule change so that the Southleast champion is no longer automatically awarded the #3 seed? It's pathetic.

Yeah, I agree, I mean, they can have them automatically qualify for the playoffs, ignoring the amount of points they have, but the seeding is ridiculous.

we'd essentially have to go undefeated to have a chance at winning the division. either that or we'd have to go atleast 6-1 and the pens would have to go 4-3 and i don't see that happening

The first round is going to feature the Florida OT Losers vs the New Jersey Shootout Champions. Both teams are tied for 7th in the conference with 31 ROW (along with Tampa Bay and Winnipeg).
