I seriously doubt basketball would work here. No interest except for a few fans, baseball however has a rich history in Montreal and we got screwed over real bad when the Expos left. But they need a downtown stadium, the Big Owe is dead. NFL? Show me the $$$. That would kill the CFL and that's not good IMO.

NFL would destroy the CFL, so no. NBA players already don't want to come to Toronto because it's a "foreign" country. I used to like basketball then the NBA came to Toronto. Now I freaking hate it. MLB by default. Plus, it gives people something to do in the summer.

It would be nice to have a professional hockey team in Montreal.

It's nice now to have an MLS team (best soccer league in NA) but for me it's the Expos AINEC.

I hope one day it will happen and won't be too old to enjoy it.

I want the Expos back. NFL would be cool too, but I don't want 8-10 home games per season. I don't care about the NBA at all.

Who cares? I don't watch anything else besides hockey, but lets call it for what it is. If I gotta tear down my home to get a mansion built ill be driving the bulldozer myself. The CFL is nice and all, and I admire the obligation to protect it, but if we can compete with the big boys...I'm in.

Give me my Expos back. I used to be heavy into baseball, but the Expos leaving completely killed my love for the sport, sadly.

The big problem would be the stadium. The lot where Labatt Park was supposed to be built is now brand new condos, and there really isn't that much space to build an MLB stadium downtown. That makes it much more harder to bring the team back.

NFL and it's not even close. That would be EPIC but damn near impossible for at least a decade or two. I wish it wasn't so. Football is the only thing that even comes close to hockey and we all love our Alouettes. The football program in Quebec has gained much popularity because of Larry Smith I believe, so there is a chance.

Baseball here would never be the same. It just wouldn't feel right without Vlad.

I think #27 should be retired in Montreal all sports combined though. (Kovalev, Pringle, Guerrero)

I'm always happy when the CFL season starts because it means that half-way through it the NHL training camp and real season starts. It's the appetizer and the fact that before this season we were back to back champions was just gravy.

Point is, there is still a LOT of interest in football here, and even if a NFL team would destroy the Alouettes I don't think many people would care. It would be positive in fact. Think of all the college kids. Instead of aspiring to have 2 jobs to be able to make it in a CFL team they can finally dream of playing in a relevant market.

Ironic how we were talking about this and now a thread like this is posted.

Hopefully we're ready to take on a MLB team again... provided MLB implemented a harder cap than what we have. We want parity!

And then the Bell Centre's ice would suck like MSG's. But, until that NBA team could offer a winning environment, we will probably have to live with the best American players we draft (however well a Montreal NBA team would draft) requesting trades or leaving in free agency in the first few seasons.

For this reason, the Raptors are usually drafting European-trained players.
