How is this possible with him on the Rangers?

Is this one of those things where he is traded to Edmonton for one day and then traded back?

It just seems weird.

Doesn't seem that weird considering his GM is Glen Sather who'll be coaching behind the bench and its supposed to be a no checking affair so it's not like he will get injured or anything. Messier back with the Oil .They are wearing the classic uniforms right?

wow! thats great news. I'm sure Mess wouldn't miss this for the world anyways. Since Slats is coaching the Oilers, I don't think he'll mind having him on the team.

There we have it...the circle is complete.

Don't be so sure about that. I read somewhere that the Oil old-timers were kind of choked because the Hab old-timers kept signing up guys who have retired in the last year or two, while the majority of Oil old-timers have been away for a while now.

Maybe Mess was their way of evening the score. Here's to hoping we see a good, old-time Messier elbow laid on one of the Frenchies.

ex. Carbonneau, Richer, Brunet, etc.

Yeah...but we have 99. And he gets to play with Kurri. Now we have Moose. I think the chemistry our guys will have is going to be the difference...the Habs team is bits and pieces over the last 20 years, the Oilers team features almost every single key player from the first 4 cups.

And isn't Les Habitants goaltender Steve Penney? WTF?

"Yes I'm all...LIT UP again..."

8-4 Oilers. Kurri hat-trick, Wayne with one, Mess with two, Simmer and Andy with the rest.

Well, but our top-level guys (Gretz, Kurri, Fuhr, Coffey etc.) have been away from the game for far less time than their top-level guys (Lafleur, uh... ) - I was wondering how this would be anything other than a blow-out, and to see Mess on the ice as well just adds to the Habs' pain... Maybe if Roy had been going in net it would have been more even, but not now, baby...

Maybe the Habs' old-timers will be trying to use the trap???

Bart

I realize that but since he is Ranger's property isn't this something like conflict of interest? Also, Why don't the Habs just ice a bunch of their former players currently active on other teams?

As much as I think it's cool - do you really think the Habs are going to go along with this? Messier is a Ranger and currently active - not retired. It just doesn't seem like it should be possible.

It's an old-timers game... that's all.

There is no $million dollar prize, there is no trophy... it was a chance for a bunch of these guys to play an outdoor game of pickup hockey in front of 60,000 screaming people.

It isn't an official NHL game, so there is no conflict of interest as long as the Rangers organization agrees to it (which they have).

Messier isn't on the team to help stack it and guarantee a win, he is there for the fans, and to be with his friends... it isn't that big of a deal.

Edmonton needs to find a way to win at least one game this week-end

So if you use Messier, can we get Chelios back for one game.

There is no trophy to be won, but there is something more important for those veterans... PRIDE, and when one team as an active NHL player on his roster, they start with a huge advantage...

For christ sake, Benny Brunet is about 400 pounds these days

At least Stephane Richer keeps practicing is slaphot on his garage door....

Not on my part, you can win the Old timer game and bash in your old time glory, i prefer winning the real game.... If that is possible......(not so sure.... If Richer sticks for our regular game....)
