Clowe and/or Murray to the Caps

What would it take to get one or both of them on the Caps?
We have 2 first rounders, ours (15-25) and Colorados (10-17)
I would be hesitant to give up a first for one of them, especially depending on the position of the pick.

I'd do something like a 1st + Brouwer for the two? This assumes we sign Stuart.

Hmm, it seems a lot of caps fans are a lot less interested in Murray.

What about the worse of the picks for Clowe? It'll still probably be below 23, at most.

I'd rather keep Clowe than do that. Gaustad got a similar 1st round pick as a trade deadline rental. Clowe is a more valuable player and he has a full year left on his contract. Washington has to offer a lot more than a draft pick.

Clowe or Murray to the Caps? Next. Not good trading partners.

Clowe is worth more than a 1st rd pick by himself.
Murray is worth more than a 1st rd pick by himself.

Absolutely terrible offer.

I'm not 100% sure on his worth, but what about Johanssen, Brouwer, 1st for Murray, Cloews?*

*May be equally as terrible from a Caps' perspective

THat is terrible. You overrate Murray, I underrate Clowe. Perhaps the Caps throw in a decent prospect but not Johanssen.

Freaking Paul Gaustad got a first.

Clowe is worth a 1st, and so is Murray. How high a first? That's a valid question.

Clowe alone is worth a top 10 pick. Especially in this market.

Any deal with Clowe included would have to be an NHL deal though. Top 6 player for Top 6 player. Unless, somehow the Sharks sign Parise, then I could see him being dealt for picks or prospects.

The Sharks would be a logo on a jersey of a bunch of random hockey players.

If you think either will get a 1st in the off-season, you will be in for a long wait because it's probably not going to happen regardless of the Gaustad trade.

Yep... Id say Murray is worth about a third. Only way the Sharks lose Clowe is if they are able to upgrade with a speedy winger. So if they do that via FA then Clowe could go for a second and a 7th!!!!

It's a very weak draft and both are very highly regarded players around the league. Clowe is highly coveted and Murray is still considered a top-4 defensemen (which are in short supply) who plays top-pairing minutes.

I'm confident they'd both get a 1st if they went for straight picks, which is doubtful anyway.

If I was offered anything less than a 1st or a top-6 Winger for Clowe, I would just walk.

Do the sharks need even more turnover?

They are both UFA's after next season and we likely cannot afford to re-sign either one. Plus Murray is likely replaced by Brad Stuart in the off-season (and we don't really have room for both).

The issue with Clowe is he is likely to ask for a lot bigger contract than he's worth with the market the way it is, he's very slow (on a team trying to get faster) and we know DW is already looking at Nash and JVR so he will likely be pushed out.

It's not a matter of not liking either player, its about moving players we likely are not going to retain anyway while they still have value.

You're probably right about Murray, but I definitely think Clowe could bring back a 1st depending on the team. After one bad year everyone forgets that he's coming off off a 60+ point season, and that he was one of our most important players in the playoffs last year. When you look at the returns not only for Gaustad but for guys like Moore and AK47, and add in the fact that Clowe has a lot of those "intangible" qualities that teams love, it's not that crazy of an idea.

I would do Clowe+Murray for a top-6 winger, 1st rounder, and a top-6 winger prospect.

What about Brouwer+1st+top-6 winger prospect (who does WSH have?)...if that's not enough from Washington, have them throw in a 3rd. If not enough from SJ, have SJ toss in a 7th. Thoughts?

I think there has to be a sea change behind the scenes in the front office for him to come back to SJ. I doubt that LA wants him as well. It probably will be the Ducks if he insists on California.

I don't think the org had any problem with Brad Stuart, they simply wanted Joe Thornton and that was the cost.
