Sens @ Jets | Mon Mar 26 | 730PM CST | MTS Centre | Game 76 | "Sen City"

SEN CITY MEETS THE 'PEG

Last 10: Ottawa 4-4-2; Winnipeg 5-5-0

Season Series: This is the fourth and final matchup this season between these two Canadian
franchises. Ottawa has taken two of the previous three, but lost the most recent meeting, a 2-0 game
in Ottawa on Jan. 16 in which Chris Mason made 25 stops for the shutout.

Big Story: While Ottawa is still hanging on to a playoff spot in the East, Winnipeg has dropped
three of their last four, all but eliminating them from postseason contention. Ottawa seemed assured
of a playoff berth not that long ago, but losses in five of its last seven games have made a
postseason appearance far less of a certainty. A strong 4-2-0 run to open March put Winnipeg within
reach of a playoff spot. But itsr recent 1-3-0 run has put those playoff hopes in peril. If the Jets
still want to qualify for the playoffs, they'll have to do it at the expense of the Sens.

Team Scope:

Senators: A 7-1-1 record to close out February made Ottawa's appearance in the Stanley Cup Playoffs
seem inevitable. But a 4-5-2 run since then has made the playoffs, though still a strong
possibility, far from a sure thing in Ottawa. A 1-2-0 homestand was followed up with a humbling 5-1
loss in Montreal Friday night, casting some doubts about whether or not Paul MacLean's squad was
capable of closing out what has so far been a remarkable comeback season following Ottawa's dismal
32-40-10 record in 2010-11.

Hope was renewed, if temporarily, Saturday night against the Penguins, easily the League's hottest
team. Hosting Pittsburgh, Milan Michalek opened the scoring with his team-leading 33rd goal of the
season before consecutive goals from Matt Cooke gave the Penguins the lead. But the Sens would score
seven more goals on just 19 shots, sustaining a 40-shot barrage from Pittsburgh to win 8-4. The
eight goals on 28 shots came from a variety of sources, particularly Daniel Alfredsson, whose two
goals and two assists gave the Ottawa captain his first four-point game in almost two years. Nick
Foligno provided three assists, for his second three-point game this season.

Jets: The Jets appeared destined to finish out of the top eight in the Eastern Conference. But a
6-1-2 run that began last month inspired hope in hockey-mad Winnipeg, which hasn't seen an NHL
playoff series win since 1987. That gleam of postseason hope was diminished by the Jets' recent
3-5-0 run, which has created a deficit in the Eastern Conference standings that may be
insurmountable.

Looking for a big win in Nashville Saturday night, the Jets trailed 2-0 in the third period
following second-period tallies from Matt Halischuk and Gabriel Bourque. Considering Winnipeg's
1-22-3 record coming into the game when trailing after 40 minutes, that score did not bode well for
the Jets. But Tim Stapleton scored 12:53 into the final frame, providing a sliver of hope against a
Nashville team that boasted a 26-2-3 record coming into the game when leading after two periods. In
the end, Winnipeg could not complete the comeback and Shea Weber’s empty-netter sealed a 3-1
Predators' win. The loss left the Jets six points out of the eight spot with just seven games to
play.

Who's Hot: For Ottawa, Milan Michalek has four points in his last two games while Jason Spezza has
five points in his last five games. The Jets' charge has been led by Stapleton, who has three
goals and three assists on his current five-game point streak. Bryan Little also has three goals in
his last three games while Spencer Machacek has six points in four games since being called up from
St. John's on March 18.

Injury Report: Jesse Winchester (concussion) and Peter Regin (shoulder surgery) are on Ottawa's IR
and Ben Bishop is questionable after leaving the game against Pittsburgh with a lower-body injury
following a goal-mouth scramble. Chris Thorburn (lower body) is on Winnipeg's IR while Eric Fehr
(upper body) and Nik Antropov (lower body) are questionable.

Stat Pack: The eight goals Saturday night were a season high for the Sens, who had scored just six
goals in their previous five games. Ottawa last scored eight goals in an 8-4 win in Tampa Bay on
Jan. 24, 2008. Alfredsson also led the way that night, establishing a new team record and career
high with seven points (three goals and four assists).

Puck Drop: If the Jets hope to fight their way into the playoffs, they'll need to improve their
third-period scoring. Their 55 third-period goals rank 27th in the League, a statistic that hurts
even more considering the Jets have allowed 81 goals in the third period this season, the
fourth-highest total in the NHL. That minus-26 differential in third-period scoring ranks only ahead
of Columbus.

First... I feel so special. A little tingly "down there".

Love the GDT theme.

Hoping for a Jets win. Make the Sens earn their spot with a solid finish after losing to the Jets 7-3.

Johny Mustache with six goals flown in from Chicago on one of those ****** commuter jets that AC use for flights from Chicago to WPG (assume they still use them).

Lol, I just spent fifteen minutes trying to find a good Sin City gif to post. There are a limitless number of Jessica Alba dancing.
I only watched one...no two....well maybe five.... I mean five oh, fifty.

Hopefully the Sens don't bring don't the Klinkhammer on us!

I wish I was going to that game. They were my favourite team while the Jets were gone. Would have loved to have seen Karlsson and company in person. Hopefully we bring our A game, no reason we can't net 5 goals or so on Anderson the Civ.

I have a feeling that Jets will play a run and gun pond hockey game tonight. I'm fine with it since it's entertaing and the talent disparity between the two teams is not too high so we actually have a shot at beating them in a pond hockey game unlike the Penguins

I've pretty much given up any hope of the playoffs, but it would be nice to see the Jets play well to finish out the season.

Just go play your game, Jets. Everything else will take care of itself. We've come this far, give it your all and let the chips fall where they may.

I feel right now like we've got nothing to lose. Just go play. Seems like so long ago we were discussing the outcomes of our games in October, how it was all so surreal. Now here we are with just a little over a week left to play in the regular season.

Leave it all out there. Everything but the ****ing kitchen sink. Ah ****, leave that out there too.

Do it, Jets.

Let's go Jets!

It's been a great year, and even if the odds are against us, I still could never be openly happy to see the Jets lose.

You know, the last few days I've been feeling a little down and disappointed given the likelihood of making the playoffs has gotten slimmer with each loss, especially given that the teams around us are pulling off some wins.

But right now, I just feel like there is nothing to lose. It's as if I am sitting here and all of the memories are coming back of what was our first season back in the NHL. Feels great. I am excited. This isn't the end, this is just the beginning. We've learned a lot this year and that should only make us better moving forward.

I hope the team feels as good as I do. .. We've all laced up the skates, put on the mitts and grabbed the stick before. For me, right now, it just feels good, like there is no pressure. I feel right now like we can pull off 7 wins out of the remaining 7 games.

Here's hoping we can pull out wins at home at the very least. The game in Washington was awesome, Nashville was... meh, so I hope the boys realize they've got nothing to lose and give it their all. Especially once they realize we'll still be cheering our hearts out for them.

Sorry if that makes no sense, I'm still sleepy. Stupid Mondays.

I'm still pissed about the goal the refs gave them earlier this year and all their diving, also earlier this year, so I hope we beat the crap out of them.

^^^^ times however many goals we score tonight, which I hope will be a season high. 10! That late Nov loss was awful, the zebras handed them a crucial goal and they scored on every chance they had. Plus I'm watching the game with friends who are Sens fans so I want bragging rights.

I don't want the season to end. I just found hockey.
I don't think I'm going to handle the first part of this summer very well. On the other hand, I can't believe that we get to do this all over again.
EVERY YEAR!

I hope at the Jets win this one for themselves and for their fans.

The summer sucks so much when you become a diehard hockey fan. Just an emptiness when the season ends and you wait around for any scrap of news from your team.

I am extremely proud of these men that don the Winnipeg Jets sweaters. They have given me so much joy, excitement and entertainment over the past cold months.

I think I've accepted that we won't be making the playoffs this year (though the dream of a miracle is still there).

I'm just going to enjoy this game, and hope that the Jets have a part in knocking the Senators out of the playoffs. Our experience with them has really made them one of my hated teams in the league.

Go Jets Go!!
