That is because most of you think any GM not named Gauthier will land us Parise, Suter and trade Gomez+Kaberle for a star. It won't happen. Injuries will, and back to the bottom we go. There is no way around it and this is the reality until July 2014.

Hard to compare but Gomez is owed 10M over the next 2 years, Vinny is owed 55M over the next 8. Granted Vinny has put up 100 points in the last 2 seasons but he's owed a ton of money for a long time so we'll see how it goes.

I wouldn't trade Gomez for Vinny.

I guess it just depends on what your definition of overpaid is..Vinny for sure has the worse contract, but Gomez produces way less for the amount of money he's paid...

This race to the bottom is more exciting than I thought it would be.

If we look at the schedule for teams within 2 pts of us right now:

ISL-> at PIT, PIT, BOS, OTT, at NJD, WIN, at CBJ
MIN-> NYR, FLA, LA, at CHI, at NSH, CHI, PHO
EDM-> DAL, LA, at ANA, at LA, ANA, at VAN

ours -> FLA, at NYR, at WAS, TBL, at CAR, TOR

Other than the NYR and WAS games, I'm very concerned that we have the easiest schedule...

The Islanders have a game in hand too!!

Please let us draft top-3 so that we can suck less in the future.

true as gomez isn't worth even half of what he earns but vinny's numbers have been going down the last few seasons so we'll see if he turns it around or if the decline continues. 8 years is a long time to be paying him such big money. Then again Gomez has given new definition to suckage, i never thought it would go so badly for him.

Gauthier is possibly one of the worst GM's in hockey, everywhere he went, everything he touched, turned to absolute crap. Look at his tenure in Anaheim as an example.

Next year will NOT be more of the same.
That's not true. Cole was an absolutely amazing signing, best free agency signing in a long time. Also, the Gill trade was great.

Who recruited NHL cookies like Emelin and Diaz? Even the Cammalleri trade looks to be at the very least a wash.

The only bad move he made was the Spacek trade, and let's be honest here, that trade really isn't that awful. Stop placing all the blame on one person, it is such an annoying trait of Habs fans on this site.

Cammy sucked, Pleks sucked, Markov and Gionta were injured, our D struggled badly and we dealt with a lot of injuries. Also, our powerplay was atrocious. I'm not saying I think we should keep Gauthier, I'm saying there are many other people to place the blame on than ONLY him.

thoses 3 teams are the most dangerous
there is 3 home games left
TB and TOR love winning in montreal, so im not that concerned
FLA will have theodore. he'll win for us

EDM will be playing against top team and are equal to us. I think we will pass them easily ( at least by 3 pts)
MIN is falling and cant be stopped

Islanders are capable winning

I expect the habs finishing 4th

for the rest im really not concerned about them

Well, last year, Gomez had 38pts, Vinny had 54 although he was injured for some time. That being said, the difference isn't all that big.
This year is another story with Gomez at 11pts and Vinny at 46. Both were injured but Gomez missed more than half the year, playing only 38 games, and I think we misused him completely.
Not sure what role management wanted him to hold, it seemed like they wanted him to play as he always did with one winger and very little ice time, and on the 2nd PP wave with guys like Campoli at the point.
If our coach actually knew what he was doing, he could have converted Gomez into a 3rd-4th line type of player. Focus on the defensive side of the game, teach him about it, and make some use out of him, instead of giving him AK only to drag him down with him as they're expected to produce offensively on the 4th line.

Anyways, I'm drifting away.
Point being, both are pretty overpaid. Vinny has been injured these past two years.
I don't think they are worlds apart, and Vinny definitely has the worse contract.

Why July 2014? Is there something special going on at that time?

Theo sucks against us but we never seem to win against FLA so that one is hard to predict.

TB maybe but for TOR game I see two problems:

1) our players might mean well and maybe want to end the season at home on a "positive" note and ruin everything.

2) i don't trust Burke and he might find a subtle way to throw that game.

This season has the potential of profoundly disappointing both the cackling tankards and the gloomy committed rooters.

Ok. I thought we just did a 5 year plan, or did it get reset again?

At this point, the best thing for the team is to lose.

Exactly.

I know it "hurts" to be hoping for our team to lose, because we are such passionate fans.

But at this point, I don't understand how someone can NOT be wishing for us to lose.

Think about it. We're clearly not making the playoffs, so just what exactly would wins do for us at this point in time?

Now think about what losses can do for us. Exactly.

Some will say "But you're not a real fan if you're wishing for losses" to which I reply "It takes a real fan to understand WHY we're hoping for losses."

Since we are officially out of the playoffs its best if we just lose now. Very sad season.

What makes it worse is remembering all the nights that the team didn't even bother showing up to the game or chose to only play 2/3 periods. That just disgusts me. Hopefully there's some kind of change in the mentality of the team.

I really don't understand how we go from beating the Red Wings when they were on top of the West and follow that by beating the Rangers who were on top of the East. Then, just a week later we can't beat anyone.

UMad? Yes. Also Sad.

U know EDM will out tank us, they're just too good at it.

The real battle here is vs Minny, the isles and the laffs.

what's even more sad is that we all watch every game religioulsy and we stick up for them.....

being from MTL and living in Jersey i get tons of slack from all theses Filthadelphia ,Devil and Ranger fans....as they are all having good seasons and here we are the best organization in all of sports sucking hind tit.....

i just hope we get a new manager we all know we are getting a new coaching staff just pray we get a new GM.....

You're right. Anymore amazing moves from Gauthier and we would have been competing for a playoff spot........in the AHL.
