How about because of his four injuries in just a year? Or the fact that he has missed more AHL/NHL games due to injuries than he has played in the NHL?
I still think he'll be qualified, and he'll sign a one year two-way deal. That is, if he doesn't come back late in the playoffs. If he does and proves himself there, he might get the one-way he's looking for.
Im no doctor, but I do think he's done for the year. If you look at the kids history he rarely beats the return prognosis.
Man you sure do put a negative spin on anything Zooks related.
He has played 53 NHL games. So far he has missed 1 NHL game due to injury.
He is a proven .5ppg scorer despite playing 3rd line minutes or less.
RFA or UFA I dont care as long as he stays a NY Ranger
Wrist injury recovery times vary. Depending on the severity (one of the bones being crushed/having to be reset) the injury recovery times tend to be 3-6 weeks with 4-5 being the average recovery time.
The injury occurred last Friday. The playoffs start in 2 fridays... so essentially 3 weeks (after the injury). The next round likely starts around 2 weeks after that. If we make it past the first round, like we all anticipate, then I think Zucc is back with us, purely as a power play specialist to begin, for the start of the 2nd round.
I do not think this is the end of his season, unless we don't make it past the 1st round.
He'll have to wear more padding on the wrist and also wear a velcro wrist strap/support but we'd have to make sure he's not put in a situation where he's at risk to re injure it too quickly. Limit him to the pp until he's ready to handle a higher work load.
Me saying im happy Wolski is gone doesent mean im not a true fan. But i would not say that For Zucc as i think he was a good guy to have, were not dead without him by any extent but he did offer creativty that some of our guys lack.
Having MZA and AA together in our bottom six gave us three lines that could produce for the first time in a looong time. I was counting on that line producing at .5g pg down the stretch and maybe etting hot in a series and helping the team finish off opponents.
Losing MZA puts a huge work load on AA if he stays in the bottom six to contribute.
On a somewhat related note, wow did AA have a few strong shifts between Cally and Dubi. I think Stepan gives us more in general there, as AA can play more of a two way game in the bottom six… but geeez shades of the Pack line of last season at it's best.
I really think they need to reunite AA Cally and Dubi the only issue is the bottom two lines may be too weak.

I wasn´t talking about you. I was talking about the dude who cheered Zuke´s injury:

Oh good this will be the last we hear about him this year.

Sorry bro, but that's just not true. I simply replied to the lad who wondered why this one injury would make the Rangers less eager to sign him and pointed out that its his fourth injury.
If you read the other half of my post, you would see that I'm fairly optmistic regarding his future with the Rangers.
I'll gladly admit to being mistaken when I thought he was done as a Ranger earlier. He has proven (or rather started to prove) me wrong. Too bad he got injured again.
I'm gonna gamble that he's back next season and buy his Jersey when I'm in NYC in june...
Go go buy it Not a big gamble IMO. They just said they want to sign him, so they'll offer him something (two way probably). Would be an odd message to send if the say they like his contribution and would like to sign him, then three shifts later he blocks a shot and gets injured, and they change their mind. Implicit morals: Don't sacrifice yourself for the team if your contract is about to run out.
He want's to play in the NHL, preferably Rangers, so he'll accept. No way he will leave for Europe now. A month ago, maybe, but not now. He won't be happy about another year in Hartford, but his odds are better than ever to make the Rangers roster now IMO. He's 25 this year. He'll still have lots of years to stack up cash in Sibiria.
It realistically appears that the only way Mats Zuccarello will continue his NHL career next season would be if the Rangers fail to qualify him on July 1, thus allowing the Norwegian to hit the open market where he might be able to attract a one-way offer as an unrestricted free agent.
Under terms of Article 10.2 (iii) of the CBA, the Rangers are required to offer the impending Zuccarello a two-way contract in order to retain his rights when his contract expires following the season. It’s hard to imagine the winger would sign that contract and risk playing for what would be relatively loose change in the AHL when compared with the money he would be able to command in Europe.
The Rangers could bump up the AHL money to $100,000. The ELC also has a cap on the AHL salary.
Is it just me, or does Brooks forget that other teams may outbid NYR?
Seems like Brooks are saying its a two way with NYR, or going back to Europe for MZA. Do I have this backwards?
It's such a damn tragedy that he had to break his arm. He was really needed out there, it was pretty visible he contributed alot out there. On most nights, he was one of our best players. Now we're back to having a lousy PP and a lack of scoring depth.
I really wonder if throwing Wolski out the window was such a good idea. Sure, he had a heavy cap hit, but we could afford it. We didn't land Nash and now our forward depth is crap.

He'll be an RFA. I doubt any other team will give him an offer sheet.

If another team gives him an offer sheet, they will have to give the Rangers a draft pick or two if he signs, depending on what they offer him. I don't think it will happen though, because it's so unusual, but it might, as it will "only" cost the other team a third or a second round pick. Looks like Zuccarello has more of a leverage than I thought before I started writing this post, if the Rangers want him back.
He will have a surgery on monday but they are not sure how long he will be sidelined. Its a small possibility he could return to the playoff depending how far Rangers will go.

Rangers will obviously make a QO two way deal. Nothing to loose on that, at worst they will have an elite AHL player for the Whale for no money.
If he either wants a one way deal or leave for Europe (unlikely), he's not gonna sign the QO. If they offer him a one way deal, it's sealed and he'll sign. If he rejects a two way deal, and there is not much more any other team need to put on the table other than a one way deal and maybe a mid round draft pick, why wouldn't they? Must be some other franchises that see the same potential that Torts and GS have seen lately?
I'll say he's gonna sign whatever they come up with, unless the agents have some very firm interest from other teams? Either way, it would be very very surprising and VERY VERY dissapointing if he leaves for Euorpe now.
So he'll be in the NHL next year either way.
Ya Basta.
Edit: When reading this I realize that I don't have a clue what I'm talking about. Pretty much writing what I hope will happen.

First it has to be not career ending thing. Then one could talk about return, contract, etc. Wrist is nothing simple when you shatter it.
I wonder what the possibility is that the Rangers qualify him on a two-way deal and then sign him to a one-way deal worth less than the qualifier.
Intersting question. Can't find anywhere they compare the two options, only the number of games played etc. when they have to make a QO as a one way deal.

a fractured wrist is a lot less severe than a shattered wrist. patrick kane fractured his wrist this offseason and he only missed one regular season game.
Norway biggest newspaper wrote today that they exchanged texts with zuke and that he's out at least 8 weeks after the operation in which a couple of plates were put into his left arm.
He broke the same arm last season, but this injury was in the middle of the arm.
A well known doctor in Norway said he likely broke both bones in the arm or else the plates are unnessasary.
