Why couldn't Gabby duplicate his 2010 season?

He's not far from that year in goals, he currently has 37 with 7 games left. Matching the 42 from that season isn't a layup but is doable if he gets hot. But that would be in 82 games vs. 76 game in 2010. So it's as good a day as any to compare stats since he played 75 this season vs. 76 in 2010. He has 37 goals compared to the 42 goals, a decent difference but not huge. But when you look at his points and assists and points it's a huge difference. He has 31 assists compared to 44 in 2010 and 68 points compared to 86 points in 2010. I don't even remember who that team had other than Gabby. The 2010 team had Vinny Prospal that's about it. He had good chemistry with Gabby if I remember, but it's Vinny friggin Prospal. This team is a lot more skilled yet Gabby hasn't been able to match it. As much as we like to ***** about this team's offense this may be the most talented team offensively he's played in his career. So why was he not able to duplicate his 2010 numbers?

1. Scoring around the league is down

2. We've got other players scoring. If you out the top soreres in the league on one team, they wouldn't be able to score as much either

I would think it would be pretty obvious.

The team isn't focusing entirely on him for offense.

In 2010, Marian Gaborik averaged 21:14 TOI/ a game including 3:42 PP ice time, a game.

In 2012 Gaborik has averaged 19:28 a game including 3:24 PP ice time a game.

That, at we'll call it 1:45 less a game totals up to about 6 full games worth of ice time, or the amount of games that he missed that season.

But we can look further than that to the style of gameplay. The 2010 New York Rangers were very focused on Marian getting the puck. We constantly tried breakaway passes and Gaborik was the power pay QB, in a way because he always had the puck.

Richards now has the puck through most of the power play. And while we occasional hit Marian for the long one, it is not as frequent.

The decrease in power play time, as well as power play importance has seen Gaborik's seasonal PPG go from 14 in 2012 to 9 in 2012. That is good for the difference of 5 goals that you see there.

Beyond that... the difference in production is so minor that it frankly could be chalked down to anything. NHLers don't play in a vacuum, and they are not robots. Same player withthe same situation in two different seasons will produce differently.

Because he's a Euro and a lazy and a locker room cancer and a detriment to this team. He can't skate, has an okay shot, but when he's not scoring he's absolutely useless. Give me Wayne Simmonds over him any day of the week. If I were head coach, he'd be cleaning Brandon Prust's jockstrap.

I agree the team has some more scoring depth.... it's not all about Gabby on the O this year... and still he's one of the league leaders.

How is it that we have other people that can score is a detriment. Wouldn't that mean his assist numbers would be up?

I think he meant people on a different line. When Gabby's not on the ice, his linemates aren't on the ice either. Like when he and Richards were split up.

I mean, he essentially did. He's 3rd in goals, will very possibly end the season with 40. The system he's playing in is different, and he's also playing better defense. Not to mention his team is 1st instead of 9th.

I'm convinced that he doesn't actually know the definition of dexterity.

We all have players on this team the drive us crazy and wouldn't be bothered if they were gone, he just happens to pick the one player that is the most offensively gifted on an offensively starved team.

Behind Hank and Cally, Gabby is the MVP of this team IMO.

Dont look at absolute numbers look relative. Its like comparing why cant someone get 120 points like Jagr and Thornton. Well after the lockout much more penalties and more PP points. Team have developed better defesnsive strategies to counter the new rules and in terms of Gabby he is not playing as many minutes as 2010 which is a good thing. I personally think this is his best season and i hope he can play without fear in the playoffs even with the injury issues.

This year Ryan Mcd to me has been the second best player after Hank and than id agree Gaby and Cally, with Girardi not far behind and not to mention Hagelin impact this season has been great.

Lundqvist and the D need to wake up from their month long slumber for this team to do anything in the playoffs.

Honestly im less worried about them, and more worried about Richards and particuarly Gaborik who has never really shown us strong playoff or tough game performances. Hopefully getting comfortable on that line and than having four lines with depth will help this team going against the other top teams.

He fell short because he invested money into hfboards, and hfboards would go bankrupt if we ran out of stupid things to complain about.

Gaborik has had stronger playoff performances than anybody else on this roster besides Hank.

The D is MUCH more worrisome than our elite goal scorer and his elite setup man.

Something has seemed off about Gaborik's shot lately. He just doesn't have the velocity on it he used to. He's still playing well, getting in position, and knows how to score, but he's not firing laser wristers like he used to. I hope it isn't permanent.

I think his shot 2 years ago looked generally better. Especially his wrister.

Those goals off the rush that he used to score time and time again in 2010... not really seeing those this season.

I don't even understand the premise of this thread. What, he should score exactly 42 goals every year because that's what he did his first year here? Seems like the OP is just searching for something to be upset about.
