I'm with on you on that. I just viewed it as a panic move. Certainly not smart, but at least understandable. Brown is stupidly fast and, perhaps trusting his instincts, thought he might be able to get away. Seems like a pretty natural human reaction, especially for a scared kid. Not that I'm condoning what he did, just that I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt and chalk it up to youthful idiocy.

im surprised at the lack of interest in UNH's Nick Sorkin. He's a big guy with above average puck skill who's had a tremendous PPG season on a below average team.

He should get a look, IMO.

For what it's worth, Oilers Chick just posted this over on the prospects board:

"BTW, I'm hearing that J.T. Brown (Minnesota-Duluth) is close to signing an NHL contract.

The scuttlebutt going around seems to indicate that he'll sign with the Flyers. Whether that's true or not, remains to be seen. I'm just passing along the info.

For those of you that missed it, Minnesota-Duluth was sent home by Boston College last night in the Northeast Regional Final of the NCAA Tournament."

Fingers crossed.

Brown happened to have the misfortune of running into a police officer checking IDs instead of a regular bouncer and panicked when he got caught. Tell me, when you read that article, does it sound like he's a bad guy? Not to me. Besides, he turned 21 a few weeks later, so this kind of incident will never be an issue again. I'd wager he learned a lesson from it and was scared straight, too.
Getting in trouble didn't stop them from signing Harry Zolnierczyk, and I'd say what he was involved in was worse.

DeKeyser chooses to return to school

Bob McKenzie ‏ @TSNBobMcKenzie

Western Michigan sophomore D Danny DeKeyser, arguably top U.S. college free agent, has decided to return to school next season.

I guess nothing official came out about Brown signing eh? I still hope the rumors are true and we get him.

Also I am happy Dekeyser is going back to school, since most likely we weren't going to get him anyway.

Scott Hartnell is working his magic today. Looks like Homer is paying him extra to be a recruit for college players. Also those two names at the end, the names of JT Browns agents I believe. Smart man Hartsy, smart man.

Gotta think Brown is coming here. Seems like him and Hartsie are boys. He constantly tweeted Hartnell through the year. Wouldnt be surprised if in the next few hours we hear Philly (well Ill be surpised if he didnt choose us).

Hard working player who is small but acts big AND has some good scoring hands? Sign me up. I wouldnt be opposed to signing Jack Connolly.

I've heard the Flyers are also on Brian Flynn and Jack Connolly's short list. Holmgren's going real hard after the college free agents. It's a good move in terms of restocking the pipeline and they're getting players that are maybe half a season to a season away from being ready for the NHL. As much as I loved Bobby Clarke as GM, I don't think he was ever this aggressive with regards to signing college UFAs.

I think all these free agent signings might mean that Holmgren is looking to go defense in the draft this year. At least that's the buzz I'm hearing.

Sign Brown, Flynn and Connolly and then trade up some current players and out 1st to get a higher 1st rounder to get a better D man prospect. That is what I'd like to see.

I like how Connolly showed people that he was the one helping his teammates get points and not the other way around. I read an article, last year I think, about how the conception was the only reason Connolly put up points was because of his teammates. He proved people wrong as he did it again this season. He is one hell of a playmaker, and Im pretty sure him and Brown played on the same line for the past 2 years. Would great to have teammates on the same team.

When signing these guys, it's not really coming down to money, right? It's just a matter of convincing them that they'll have a place in the organization?
