Of course it is. Who cares if he scored two goals the night before? Heck, if he scores a goal in the semi-final, he'll be a lock for the Ranger's roster!

I guess I'm one of the few who doesn't want him to sign until he actually gets his degree. It would be favorable to see Kreider at the WC than in the playoffs just to see if the added year payed off when he plays against pros. If he is lackluster than it is easier to assess he needs time in the minors than to just burn off a year of an ELC.

Tony Amonte did it when he came up, debut in playoffs and had 2 points.

With all due respect, are you crazy? If management thinks he can help this year, I want him here. There's plenty of time to assess his future in the future

said about the same crap he said on nbcsn last week. due to the frozen four schedule he doesn't think that kreider will play this season for the rangers, but of course he still could. he thinks that because kreider wouldn't get a signing bonus or get paid at all if he just joins for the playoffs that he'll wait until next season.

Carl Hagelin signed with the Rangers on April 11 which was 2 days after Michigan lost to Minnesota Duluth in the Frozen 4 final. He got a $175,000 signing bonus. The max for 2007 draft picks was $875,000. The CBA allows 10% of the max to be a signing bonus. Hagelin signed a 2 year ELC. $87,500. $175,000 signing bonus. Hagelin could have played in the playoffs for the Rangers last season because he was on their reserve list. Why can't Kreider get a signing bonus? The max for 2009 picks is $900,000. Kreider will sign a 3 year ELC. $270,000 signing bonus.

Just because management believes he can step in doesn't guarantee he will do a great job. I'd rather play it safe and have him longer on an ELC. And if the team continues their inconsistent play then what's the point of adding Kreider.

i assume it has something to do with not playing a regular season game, but i have no idea. i'm not super familiar with the cba, just regurgitating what mac said.

McKenzie is wrong then. JT Miller got a signing bonus when he signed his ELC and he has yet to play for the Rangers. He ELC hasn't even kicked in yet because he's in juniors, but he still got the signing bonus money.

Interesting take on the story here.

Quote:
The more I listened to Kreider, the more it occurred to me that I’d heard this story before. It was, in fact, eerily familiar. In the spring of 1991, Boston University star Tony Amonte had a career waiting for him in the NHL, also with the Rangers, yet he blotted it out during the postseason.

It wasn’t until a day or two later, after the Terriers suffered a heart-breaking, triple-overtime loss to Northern Michigan in the national championship game, that Amonte announced he was going to the Rangers. And talk about a magical transformation: He was wearing jeans, a T-shirt and a baseball cap at his turning-pro press conference at Walter Brown Arena, after which he was whisked off to Eastern Clothing in Watertown and fitted for a new suit that was tailored on the spot.

Decked out in his new clothes, Amonte was put on a plane to New York, then driven directly to Madison Square Garden, where he made his NHL debut in the Stanley Cup playoffs. The Hingham native went on to play 15 seasons in the NHL, scoring 416 goals.

So maybe it happens again. Maybe another Massachusetts native from a Beanpot school makes it to the Frozen Four, and then goes to Eastern Clothing for a new suit, and then to Madison Square Garden for a new uniform.

Slightly off topic but is Beninati going to do the Frozen Four PBP or was it just for regionals. I really enjoy Gary Thorne, so I'm wondering if anyone knows anything.

I'm much more comfortabkle with Sather and Tortorella making that decision than you or anyone else on this board.

Amazing. Gary is my absolute favorite announcer of all time.

"FEDOTENKOOOOOO!"

So much better than Emerick's whiny disgusting throaty crap.

Melrose is decent. Thorne and Clement doing the playoff games on ESPN during the 90's was the best ever, IMO.

Waiting 2 weeks to play the Frozen 4 has always been a stupid idea. This isn't the Super Bowl which is a corporate event. How many fans of college basketball watch college hockey and vica versa?

To that end...they're really plugging nontraditional markets for the frozen four. It's dumb. No one outside of hockey fans want to watch college hockey in Florida in April.

Do what the d-3 men's tournament does and have it in lake placid or the twin cities every year. Get the tournament done as quickly as possible while people have less to watch (baseball, playoff hockey, nba).
