Alright I got to rant about something that really bothers me. Perhaps I am a movie snob (sorry it comes from my UCLA and USC training) but I HATE it when mediocre movies receive more praise then they should, especially when they are like the cliffnotes of a much better novel.

By now I am sure you have guessed the target of my rant: The Hunger Games. At first, I was really excited about this movie, it had a lot going for. Post Apoc world, an exceptional story line, and a talented cast. What could go wrong right?

I feel like the pandering to the young audience was a bit overdone and should've been taken to the proper levels of shock. I also think the editing crew and director should be replaced for the next film for their awful decisions of camera angles and shaky display of editing. There were a couple other things that really bothered me too, such as the way they changed Rue's death and their over playing of the bloodthirsty teens of district 1 and 2. Also felt like it was more geared to "hate the rich" rather than "hate the evil, corrupt government"

That being said, there were a lot of good things to take from this movie. The casting was pretty much spot on. Did a go job of showing us the world, but the bouncing between comedy and horrific violence on children was uneven and hard to digest.

Joe, don't take this the wrong way, but you are literally the first male to tell me that The Hunger Games is good. I have no idea why. No guy has even talked about it around me, so it isn't like a bunch of my friends say it sucks. It's just every time I have heard anyone talking about it, it has been a female. It's odd. I was beginning to think that not a single guy in the world had read/seen it.

I liked it better when it was called Battle Royale.

It's a young adult genre but, having read it, it's well worth anyone's time. Much, much better than I thought the books would be. Couldn't put it down.

Funny story...

I went fishing yesterday for the first time of the year. I'm not very good at it, but I like to hang out with friends for a while and just relax. Anyway, so I was casting for a while without much luck. I got a few bites, but nothing that stayed on the line. At one point I messed up the cast. The lure went only five or six feet, and straight down into a big mat of grass floating on the surface. I started reeling in immediately to re-cast, but there was a fish on my hook. It's like I threw the lure right into her mouth

So after five hours I landed one fish out of sheer dumb luck

"Pumped Up Kicks" is such a catchy, upbeat sounding tune.... until you actually hear your 11 year old singing the lyrics

From what I understand all international competitions are played on larger than NHL ice.

Yep. Olympics use International sized rink, not North American ie NHL size.

edit: European leagues use the International sized ice too.

Due to the cost and labor involved with taking out seats, making new ice, etc to enlarge the ice surface the Salt Lake City and Vancouver games got waiver from the IIHF to host the games on NHL sized rinks.

Having a full wooden file drawer smash your finger doesn't feel too hot, either. My desk has a problematic design--stuff in the top drawer falls back behind the bottom file drawer. To retrieve stuff behind the drawer, you have to pull it out past the locking mechanism and fish out what's fallen back there--it's pretty much a given you'll have to sit on the floor to do this. If it isn't important I usually don't worry about it but this was my bank deposit book...and the drawer fell down on my finger. This happened almost a week ago but it's still sore. Not broken though, so I can't be 100% negative. Sorry.

Does anyone on this board have Time Warner Cable? I'm getting it and got the sports pass. Would I be able to watch Preds games with that?

Who is Jack Maclellan? I've seen this guy on the scratch list since we picked him up earlier this month. The other permascratchers put in a request to round out a nice game of spades during the games?

Jack MacLellan, known to the fine folks at Brown as Jack MacLellan '12, is a free agent signing who scored 95 points over 91 games during his final three seasons with the Bears. He signed a one-year deal earlier this month. The team is keeping him up to practice instead of sending him to Milwaukee. Hopefully we won't have to use him...

I had it in California. I don't know how different regions are affected, I would assume not much if at all, but the sports pass is only stuff like NHL Network, NBA TV, MLB TV, Fox Soccer, etc. You would still have to order Center Ice. But as far as I know they do offer that because I got the free preview at the beginning of the season, but I just got GameCenter.

I don't know if this would affect you, but Time Warner has gotten a lot of crap for not being able to offer NFL Network.
