FISU felt it was too risky to let the games proceed in Maribor, Slovenia so they have moved them to Trentino, Italy and have changed the dates (moved up one week) from Jan. 30 - Feb 9th to Jan. 23 - Feb 3rd. It will be interesting to see which games get impacted as a result (would have missed 'A' not misses 'B' instead)
It will be interesting to see how they go about selecting the team. When the OUA went in 2011 Western had I think 7 players on the team (Singer was the coach)...I assume they will do what they did in 2007 with the AUS and pick guys off of every team and no more than 4 per team.
If Gardiner had his way the AUC would be dark for those two weeks as the entire squad would be in Italy.
Looking back to '07 the plan was to take at least 3 from each team. If you recall, Dal and UPEI were weak and only one was picked from each school. This coming season I can envision the same with Dal and STU. Poulin should get consideration, but I can't see anyone from Dal making the cut, but someone has to.
Also remember that it costs the school around 4-5 grand to send a player, so some schools might balk at sending more than the required minimum.
We'll have to start a thread mid season to generate some interest in this tournament.
