Oh, you Sharks fans gotta great catch in Oleksuk!

Very fast, uses his speed well in creating plays, has a wicked shot and defensively responsible.

Did I mention that he's a fun player to watch too?

I could be totally off base here, but my understanding is the Sharks lure kids like this fairly often these days because of a few obvious things like the reputation of the org, and a quality development system along with fair treatment of players...

However, I was kind of thinking we have a few other things going for us that maybe have a big impact:

1) Poor prospect pool means better opportunities for undrafted players
2) One of the few teams where undrafted prospects see regular NHL time on a cup caliber team.

Anyone think that's off base?

That makes no sense as something that'd help attract players here. It's not like an org isn't gonna give a player regular NHL time if he deserves the spot just because he was undrafted.

I think you are missunderstanding me.

What I'm saying is, undrafted player are more likely to see NHL time with us because they don't have blue chip prospects to compete with. Though, I would imagine preferential treatment is often given to high draft picks over undrafted players given a similar level of play, that wasn't really what I was getting at.

Name a team, as an undrafted player, where you are going to have less competition for NHL time on a high caliber team. That's what I'm saying.

wow 16 posts in and there is nobody complaining about how the sharks are able to sign these players with already being over the roster limit.

Seriously. It has absolutely NOTHING to do with the Sharks winning last night and being in the 3rd seed again.

Should've signed JT Brown too. We need wingers not centers.

this, this 100%...

Its more just about playing time.. I know for a fact Stéphane Da Costa chose the Sens because they promised the NHL at the end of the season

I'm sure the Sharks had interest, sounds like he'll most likely end up in Philly with Boston & TB also still in the 'running'.

LOL!

You've obviously never seen the two of them play much. Their very different players. For starters, Connolly is a winger. Oleksuk is a pure center.

DW has an unhealthy obsession with signing centers.

Seems like he knows they have more value in trade. He's always saying how teams want centers and puck moving d. That and his philosophy seems to be, "we need our prospects to step up so we can trade them".
