You can't compare dmen scoring to forward scoring in a Calder race when they were as close as they were.
Also, it's amazing how RNH gets to be in a class of his own offensively AND is somehow nearly as good defensively as Landeskog.
Landeskog's defensive abilities and play away from the puck are clearly in a tier above RNH.
People will then say that Lando has the size/body to play that way, which isn't an argument against him, moreso against RNH because he isn't as impressive defensively.
And all of this "RNH would score way more if he didn't miss 20 games." is just a bunch of excuses. It's getting old because no one knows how he would have played and it's ignoring the fact that being healthy is a sign of a more impressive rookie.
Player A scores 50 points in 50 games, Player B scores 50 points in 80 games, sure you got for Player A. But then you look at Player B and recognize they are better at almost every other facet of the game than just the offensive scoring... you'd take Player B for that season.
and on the next hand??? staying healthy is perhaps the one most important factor in nhl star success, just ask Peter the great ... gone away but not missed..
While injuries to RNH and Henrique obviously hurt their changes by not being able to play a fully season; in my opinion, the overall game of Landeskog is what should and hopefully will seperate him from the rest of the pack for the Calder.

I don't see why health shouldn't also be a factor for this. RNH got hurt a lot otherwise he would have run away with the Calder. But he did get hurt, and it hurt his team in the long run. Landeskog hasn't been hurt all year, and he plays a hell of a lot more physical than RNH, and his team is still mathematically in a playoff hunt.

No reasonable person is saying otherwise.

Agreed. Unless RNH would have laid an egg in those games he missed and only scored 4-5 points, he'd probably be pushing mid-high 60's right now with a legit shot at 70 points in which case none of these threads even exist.

Which is why even if RNH pulls ahead in the scoring race and finishes 3-4 points in front, he still very well may lose the Calder (I've said before I think he'll need a solid 5-7 point cushion to win).

That is supposed to be entirely irrelevant to the award.
injuries are part of the game and will influence the winner. In 1988-89 Brian Leach won the Calder , but early this year all the buzz was about Joe Sakic, who was infront of everybody to win it. Sadly Sakic got injured , missed 10 games and after his return wasnt the same player snd it stayed like this for the rest of the year. Not Saying that Leach didnt deserve to win , but i have a gut feeling that maybe things would have been different if Sakic didnt get injured.
I've been more impressed with Lando's rookie season than I was with Duchene.
Hands-down.
To be honest, I was more impressed with O'Reilly's rookie season than Duchene's just because O'Reilly was not expected to make the big club OR make a huge impact. Yes, I was on #37's bandwagon from game 1 (I like underdog players). Not to say Duchene did not impress me, however.

Agreed and Radar's poise was unbelievable for someone 18 years old.
I mean, as far as expectation goes yes RoR beats anyone. Stastny is up there too, wasn't expecting him to have 78 points or beat out Wolski (at that point). But Duchene had a amazing rookie season. Sure he isn't a Malkin or Crosby level rookie season but enough to show high promise. Lando just opened this season balls blazing and hasn't stopped.

Oh I completely agree. I was just saying with what the expectations were in training camp in '09 and the subsequent play of Duchene and O'Reilly, O'Reilly impressed me, or should I say surprised me, the most.
I completely agree. Talk about "playing the game the right way." I'm not sure I've seen a player that tries as hard every single night as Landeskog. I know he himself hates the comparisons, but the likeness to Forsberg is uncanny.
Oiler fan here. I think Lando wins it. he's been good. but do i wish we had pick him instead of RNH? not a chance. i'll take the next Modano over the next Franzen everytime.

Landy>>>Franzen
Plus does Landy even play like Franzen? Isn't Franzen's problem effort and consistency? Those are Landy's strengths.
Hopefully Lando wins it, can't stand those whining Edmonton fans.
All of the reputable neutral sources I've read say Landeskog, so I'm inclined to believe it's him. Doesn't really matter in the long run, but it'd be nice, and I don't think it's quite as close as some Edmonton fans think it is.

Eh, I was too in the beginning when he was putting up a lot of points, but then he slowed down to a halt and didn't even look as impressive defensively as he did in the beginning.
Duchene was certainly flashy his rookie year, but Landeskog has had easily the best rookie season for the Avs since Stastny. It's not even a contest. There's been no slowing down, no ruts in the road, the guy has been a consistent force, the best all around player on the team.
There was no way Edmonton would pick anyone but RNH. They can't go with Gagner and Horcoff down the middle. Even if they had more strength down the middle it would have made sense to pick him. He is a wonderful talent that will be an excellent center for a very long time.
I think Avs might have picked RNH too if they had the chance. In a way I'm happy we didn't have the choice since Landeskog not only will be a formidable player, he fills a gazillion needs on and off the ice.

Despite him cooling down mid-way through the season, he surprised many of us, including me. I knew (and frankly expected) Duchene would be capable of gunning for the Calder. Personally, I had no idea what to expect out of O'Reilly. My word choice might not be the best here, as "surprised" works better, but still.
Oh man... it is early so if I am blathering on, just tell me haha.
