He's like the Swedish Skinner- minus the annoying.
I don't think he has Skinner's skating or quite the same level of puckhandling or else he'd be a top 10 lock. I think Teravainen is a little more dynamic but either may be the best pure offensive player available. Maybe not the best player but that's where projection and getting to know the players come into play.
Mock drafts by a Western Conference scout and Eastern Conference scout. Taking Matheson over Galchenyuk with their second pick would be tough. Faksa or Gaunce do seem like best case scenarios.
Interesting that one guy had Galchenyuk going 6th and the other guy had him going 19th.
If he does somehow slip to the Caps and they don't select him I will be disappointed unless another very highly rated guy also slips to them for some reason.
If Teravainen has so much offensive skills, why is he not projected higher? I've seen a lot of people on here give him a lot of praise and say he'll be the steal of the draft... In the draft in a GM game someone took him in the top 5.
Don't think the Caps will have a chance at him without moving up.
I bet he goes earlier than projected. A big, gritty Canadian center with offensive upside is just the type to be a late riser. I wouldn't be at all surprised if he's the first center off the board.
Brian Burke seems the perfect candidate to pick him.
Teravainen is something of a late riser. One of the scout mocks had him going ninth. IINM he was injured and unavailable for the WJC but he's been lights out in other international tournaments and already playing a key role in a pro league.
The dearth of top-end forward talent outside of the Russian three and Forsberg could push him into the top ten, which would maybe then push down one of the centers.

Yes. My projected top ten would be Yakupov, Grigorenko, Dumba, Galchenyuk, Murray, Trouba, Forsberg, Faksa, Rielly & Gaunce. Maybe someone slips...who knows. I wouldn't count on it. That 11-16 group is more worst-case but still pretty strong.
Olli Maatta is another option in that range. A Finn, yes, but one that Hunter will be able to tell them all about.
Yeah I don't think its likely we'll have a chance at Gaunce, he'd be my ideal pick though. His two-way play and competitiveness would do wonders for this team.
I feel like there's a chance that Faksa can slide a bit however.

It's possible Burke might throw it off though.
I thought the same thing would happen with Mcneil last year and it didn't
I'm tired of people thinking doing alright with mediocre goalies is a good idea, Vasilevski has a chance to be an elite goaltender. Can't say the same for Neuvirth or Holtby.
I really dont think Gaunce goes top 10, and I definitely don't think he'll be the first Center off the board.
Grigorenko, Galchenyuk & Faksa are all centers. I can definitely see him going top ten, particularly if Belleville loses in the first round and he ends up with a showcase performance at the U18s.

Average to a bit above average I'd guess. Hard to say. Toward the late teens it seems to thin out as far as upside, especially up front.
No love for Girgensons? The kid can develop into a strong, defensively reliable C with a scoring touch. Would count as a good pick somewhere in the late teens.

Right now he looks to me like the Russian version of Jack Campbell only with a bit more upside (due to his younger age and no 3,50+ GAA seasons in the CHL ). At 18 he would be a steal.

I've been on the bandwagon since this season. Last season I wasn't impressed, but this season I have been. He's been dinged up though recently.
