If they get Thiessen they will have a chance at that game, and MAF may have been concussed tonight.

Listened to Washinton announcers talk smack to start game and slowing eat their words. Worst lines. Miller didn't have to do much and this is like last year when Washington won a key game to knock Buffalo from playoffs. Huh?

Caps looked BAD in this game. It looked like their d was standing around a lot and the goaltending was horrible. I dunno how they have been winning so much.

I was 100% convinced that was gonna be the minnesota game...and they won that. i'd be happy with a point as long as we then beat toronto the next 2 games.

FES is just dominant. Ennis is so good all over the ice. He wins every race in the offensive zone. Stafford has played like a leader. Foligno is a fantastic young player. He's so smart.

Pominville picking up the SHG was just enormous. He channeled his inner Drury/Briere. Things were looking bleak, the team was on their heels after giving up the goal to Semin, but Poms came through and settled things down. Huge goal from a great captain.

This thread needs more Hodgson. Played an excellent game again.

Shoutout to the five defenseman donning blue and gold tonight. Losing Ehrhoff hurt, but all five dug down and got it done. Particularly Rej, who battled all night long.

They have a few days to settle down and make sure there's no letdown against Pittsburgh. They know the job's not done.

If they lose to Pittsburgh, it's not going to be a letdown, it's going to be because they just came up short. But...I think they're going to win that game.

That gets them in. No way the Caps run the table.
Yes, I think 92 pts. will definitely do it this year.

EDIT: Meant 94. But 92 might do it too.

Here's a thought....

If you're the Caps, how gung-ho are you to win at all costs for the remainder of the season after this game tonight? This may have been a back breaker for them.

The right sort of team might fight twice as hard to win all remaining games after this setback tonight, but the Caps aren't that sort of team.

I am not saying they will quit, but....

It wouldn't hurt a thing if they backed off the gas pedal a bit.

The way they're playing right now, I'm not particularly scared of any opponent. My only concern going forward is what effect Ehrhoff's injury and possible missed games might have. When he was out last time their record was pretty terrible, as I recall.

meh. If the Sabres keep playing Sabres hockey they wont have to check their rearview. They earned control of their own destiny tonight. And it didn't come easy.

Thanks! Another good - Sabres fans in the crowd tonight. I love the energy that the traveling crowd gives to the Sabres when they play away. Reminds me of the travel base in 06. Just got back from a vacation in the west coast, the Sharks fans are pretty impressive too BTW.

G:
-5 wins in a ****ing row!
-I really liked the forward line combos. Great balance of skill and I love the way that Tropp and Foligno compliment their lines.
-Staff was really buzzing tonight. Talent and determination on full display.
-Miller was solid
-Captain with a huge effort on the pk
-PK was solid
-D was resilient
-Roy going after Hendricks after a scrum. He's really turned up the intensity.

Add to the good - man, Miller's numbers are impressive on the season, especially considering the injury and his early-season woes.

A .919 save percentage, 2.46 GAA and 30 wins.

He's never had fewer than 30 wins in a season. On a similar note, Vanek has never scored fewer than 25 goals in a season.

We may control our destiny, but it still has to go through Pittsburgh, Boston, and Philly. That's what worries me. If Washington wants to go in the tank to bail us out a bit, it wouldn't bother me at all.

Doesn't matter. Washington is NOT catching up to Florida anymore, especially given games in hand. They're locked in to the third spot.

Washington plays Boston on Thursday before we get Pittsburgh on Friday. If everything works out, we could be in great shape coming out of the weekend.

Good:
We can watch the Capitals play Thursday before we play again. Have to root for the Bruins.

They really haven't been winning much since after the all-star break, and what wins they have gotten have been primarily against such bottom feeders as Montreal, Toronto, and the Islanders.

And yeah, their D is awful.

Leopold logging huge minutes tonight with Ehrhoff out. Sulzer looked good playing with him. He had one little gaff in the 3rd that lead to a 2 on 1 down low, but other then that I thought he played a good game.

edit: that's one of the good things about Leopold. He may have the occasional brain fart, but he can eat a lot of minutes if you need him to.

Given the fact that Florida came back to tie it and win it, I agree. That was my point.
