The meaning of some player loans and re-assignments

Perhaps someone can lend some clarity here.

Right before Clear Day Rosters were published, the Texas Stars re-assigned forward Ray Sawada to St. John's. I think Sawada was originally drafted in 2004; since turning pro he's struggled to crack the Dallas roster and he's struggled to stay healthy for a full season.

Sawada began this season on the Stars' top line and was averaging a point per game before a knee injury knocked him out for several weeks.

Since Texas is indisputably out of this year's playoffs, and because of Ray's spotty career thus far, is it reasonable to see this re-assignment as a sign that Dallas isn't planning to re-sign him this summer and also as a way for Ray to get some looks from Eastern teams?

I'm asking because I really have no idea.

Basically, yes. A guy who gets loaned is likely not on his team's priority list any longer, unless he manages to turn it on and have a huge run down the stretch and in the postseason.

Also, Sawada had a connection with the Manitioba Moose. The IceCaps went after him in an effort to get bigger at forward for a playoff run

Re-assignment could also be due to the parent club thinking a guy might develop better with another minor league club. That's how it was with the teams who don't have an affiliation. They spread there guys around to the teams who they think will have the best impact.
Not even sure if there are any teams without a full affiliation?

Rochester/Buffalo 'loaned' us (Texas Stars) Drew Schiestel and personally I'll be sorry to see him go at season's end.

Brett Sterling and Patrick O'Sullivan were loaned for each other earlier this year.
