Last time this team had busted foot issues come playoff time, we almost won it all. It's a sign

Remember Timonen getting slashed down by Malone on the Giroux pass to even up the penalties. I saw him clutching his left arm after the fall.

Tim P.'s article:

http://www.csnphilly.com/blog/flyers...044&feedID=704

Quote:
"We’re hoping he will be back on the ice Friday and play this weekend," general manager Paul Holmgren said. "It’s just a little bit of pain management for Ilya. He feels a little better today. He’s going to come in tomorrow and work out and get treatment, and hopefully practice on Friday."
Quote:
The injury happened in warm-ups on Monday, when Bryzgalov blocked a shot taken by teammate Jakub Voracek. Despite that, there was never a plan for Bryzgalov to sit out for the game against the Lightning.

"He wanted to play," Holmgren said. "We had an X-ray after warm-ups with his skate on and nothing showed. An X-ray after the game didn’t show. And an MRI (taken Tuesday) showed a small little chip in there. So we’re dealing with it. We’ll see how the next couple of days go. Nobody is really concerned about this."
Quote:
Defenseman Kimmo Timonen joins Bryzgalov on the Flyers' injured list, as well. The veteran defenseman is listed as day to day with an upper-body injury.

"Kimmo is on a maintenance thing," Holmgren said, "and part of the plan is to take this day off."

BRYZ HAS CHIP FRACTURE
Less than 24-hours after suffering a 5-3 defeat at the hands of the Tampa Bay Lightning, Flyers GM Paul Holmgren announced an injury update on several players, one of which involving goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov.

"An MRI revealed a chip fracture in his right foot. He will be unavailable for Thursday’s game and is day-to-day."

"We don’t think this is a serious injury," added Holmgren. "We’re hoping that he’ll be back on the ice practicing with the idea that he can play on the weekend. It’s just going to be a little bit of pain management for Ilya."

Holmgren also added that x-rays were taken of the foot following warm-ups of the Flyers-Lightning game on Monday, where he believes he sustained the injury after taking a shot from forward Jakub Voracek from a side angle that hit an exposed part of his skate.

The x-ray did not reveal the chip and Bryzgalov played the full game.

Said Holmgren: "Ilya wants to play, he feels like he’ll be OK, but we’ll just see how it goes. I think we’ll have a better grasp on how he is tomorrow. He’s going to get some treatment here tonight and again come in tomorrow and work out and get treatment done... Nobody’s really concerned. The doctors are not concerned, Jimmy McCrossin’s not too concerned. He’s a little sore right now."

As a result, Bryzgalov will not make the trip up to Toronto on Wednesday, leaving the Flyers to recall goaltender Jason Bacashihua from their AHL affiliate, the Adirondack Phantoms, who will back up goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky on Thursday at the Air Canada Centre.
Quote:
In addition to Bryzgalov, Kimmo Timonen will also stay back and not travel to Toronto.

“Kimmo’s not going to play on Thursday," said Holmgren. "This is kind of a maintenance thing we had planned. Tonight we’ll recall Marc-Andre Bourdon, and then we’ll see where Lilja is. He could possibly play on Thursday but we’re not sure. So we’ll have seven defensemen there, and if Lilja can play, we’ll probably make a decision on loaning Erik back or Marc-Andre.”

Timonen, who had appeared in the last seven games for the Flyers, recording two goals and five points, is listed as day-to-day with an upper-body injury.

Meszaros is still out right? So...we're missing Timonen, Meszaros, and Bryz our next game? We're screwed.

Good teams figure out a way to get the job done when injuries etc come calling.....This club has done one heck of a job over coming all kinds of injuries this season etc...Just got to keep on digging and working hard like our club has been doing all season....Hopefully Bryz will heal up and be 100% come play off time.

This.

Let's say we freefall, there's only 6 games left - the worst that will happen is we get 6th. Let Jersey have the Pens/Rangers.

These boards really jump off the bridge quickly sometimes.

It's day to day, he's going to be fine.

There is a good reason for that reaction... just think back to Pronger with the flu.

lol at thinking there is some grandesque sense of honour or something.. You do what is best for the team and the organization. I wouldn't be surprised if Homer is calling the shots right now, resting top players like Kimmo and Bryz even if they can play in the games. That way, your dignity is intact because you are still playing 100% effort, but just not with 100% of your personnel. Would be a smart idea to beat up on Florida, and get some momentum and confidence rolling into the second round against a better opponent.
And by the way, I don't buy your crap at all about beating the Pens in 5 games. I'll gladly eat crow if they do and you bring this thread up, but there is absolutely nothing to indicate they could walk over them like that in the playoffs.

If they're smart, they will rest some other starters as well. Who cares if you win these games at this point against terrible teams. The only games that matter that are left in the regular season are against the Pens and Rangers. And no, not because they could possibly give you home ice advantage/top seed in the east, because there is virtually no chance of that happening, but because they are statement games.

the Flyers do not match up well with the Rangers at all. a pretty good chance we are going to get a bad draw in round 1.

I would throw the other games... like the ones against Toronto, Ottawa etc... who cares about those results?

This is probably what Holmgren means as "day to day" for Bryzgalov:
