#6th playoff spot. Best place to be.

I keep saying it and I am ging to keep saying it. Let's get Florida and give Devils #5.

Devils schedule is a lot easier. They finally got Zajak back and Volchenkov is day to day with his injury. Basically their team is 100% healthy.

Flyers on the other hand have some nagging injuries with Timonen and now Bryzgalov plus Meszaros and JVR might not be ready for 1st round. We are limping into playoffs once again.

NYR will get Sabres. (I think Sens have easier schedule compared to Sabres and NYR will get red hot Sabres)
Pens get Devils. (Let them kill each other.)
Flyers get Florida. (Perfect entry round for our rookies and injuries)
Sens get Boston (I do not care what happens there)

What do you say?

6th would be ideal, and I'm not under estimating Florida, but they would be an easier opponent the either the Rangers or Pens.

I don't like the idea of 'throwing' games to get there though. I wont lie though, I wouldn't be upset if they lost a few and the devils went on a late tear. At the same time, I'd like them to beat the Pens twice and the Rangers heading into the playoffs for confidence and to prove to all those fans not giving the Flyers a sniff that this team still is very much in the game, and just as big a threat as either those teams.

Play the hand you're dealt. Tanking is never a good idea, especially when you are tanking to get a different playoff matchup. So they get Florida in round 1 then Pitt/NYR/Bos in round two. The road to the Cup is likely going to go through those teams either way.

Obviously I'd rather see them play Florida in the first round, but in the grand scheme of things, I don't think it matters that much since there are three teams they are trying to avoid. If it was just the Pens they are trying to avoid that is a different story, but Boston, NYR, and Pitt are all dangerous and I would be pretty shocked if none of them made it to the second round.

Momentum is just as important to me as seeding. What if we tank, but fail to secure the 6 seed? Then you have to turn it all back on for Pittsburgh or NYR in the first round? Terrible.

We control how we play and that's it. Try to play your best possible hockey, while perhaps resting a couple of the vets. Play to win in the 2 games against Pittsburgh. Let the chips fall where they may.

it doesnt matter where we finish

if we want to win the cup, we're going to have to go through at least one of the pens, rangers or bruins, probably 2 of them

If the Devils go 5-0 the Flyers would have to go 2-3-1 to fall to 6th. It's much more likely that the Devils go 4-1 in which case the Flyers would have to win just 1 of their final 6 games to drop to 6th. I don't want to go into the playoffs going at best 1-5-1 in the final 7 games.

It's looking more and more like the Flyers and Pens will be playing each other 9 times in the next few weeks. No one is underestimating and would like to avoid playing the Flyers, Pens, Rangers, or Bruins if they could. The Sabres with Miller or the Caps if they get on a roll could easily beat the Rangers or Pens in the 1st round. Being nervous every series, every game and damn near every shift is what makes the Stanley Cup playoffs so great. There is no easy road.

I really dislike the idea of intentionally losing in order to avoid a matchup. The Pens and Rangers are more than likely going to advance anyway, so why not just try to beat them straight up in the early rounds? If you see them later in the playoffs, injuries could really change the face of the series.

Pittsburgh forum is one down. Philly doesn't tank.

I agree. Play to win, they get who they get. If we cant beat the Pens or Rangers or whomever, then we're not good enough to win the cup.

If we intentionally tank, I hope we get swept in the first round. Luckily, this will not happen, and I'll be able to fully support the team.

Good luck guys. With the way the Devils are playing right now you might have to wait for Buffalo to take the 5th spot.

I'd rather the Flyers make the push for 4th. The divison title looks like it's out of the picture now, but there's no reason why the Flyers can't finish ahead of the Pens.

The team would have to go on a miserable run to come in 6th and, if they do, would likely lose to any team in the first round anyway. Momentum is almost as important as the match up.

Momentum is awesome but it can be taken away in 5-10min of 1st game of 1st round especially from injured team that playing 5-6 rookies.

Pittsburgh is a very serious opponent that had our number for a number of years during playoffs. Not saying we can not beat them but if there is an opportunity to ease our rookies into playoffs against weaker team. Why not?

Honestly, I take 5th or 6th.

According to this site, if you add Ian Laperriere which the author missed, the Flyers sit at 390 man games lost to injury. Unless I missed something, that's #1, and with the latest injuries, will just grow further and further.

http://www.sabresinseven.com/2011/12...1-2012-season/

Assuming, of course, this list is accurate.

Pretty impressive.

How about you bring this plan to the management, coaching staff and the players and see what they think?

In other words, not gonna happen.

If they happen to slump and fall to 6th that's a different story, but I honestly would rather win all 6 remaining games and squeeze up into 4th or even 1st.

Seeing as how we play Pittsburgh twice, if we beat them both times that essentially closes the gap. Beating NYR would help, too. IMO, those games are must-win.

Why, because we have dominated the Penguins and you see how stupid it is to avoid them?

We are banged up. Easy way to 2nd round. Get JVR back, maybe Meszaros will be healthy. Easier opponent. Rookies will get 1st taste of playoffs.

We play well against Florida too. We dominate Florida.

So the plan is:

- We get 6th
- Play Florida
- Move on (hopefully) to Round 2
- Then watch the Rags sweep us?

Not a great plan.

6th seed makes it more likely we get the Rangers in the 2nd round.

We crush the Pens, let the Devils play the Rangers in round 2, and we don't have to play they to the ECF.
