Has excellent size at 6'2 215lb and has improved vastly on his defensive game this season as opposed to last year. if you make the playoffs and someone gets hurt, it would not shock me if he is the first guy brought up...kid has tons of raw ability and is just tipping the iceberg right now.

congrats to him!
Good deal! Looking forward to seeing him play. Can you compare him to any current NHLers?

Desjardins earned his contract by playing well in Worcester...and the funny thing was before his first year here he wasn't a guy the WorSharks were even really looking at. He was a "warm body" for training camp, but after one workout it was obvious he was hell bent on taking advantage of when he thought might be his only chance to impress at the AHL level.

I'd say he made the best of it.

His biggest problem is he's always hurt. I don't think he's ever been 100% here...

Many undrafted free agents (be they CHLers or collegians) are 2-5 years older than a nominal 18 year old draftee, i.e., more mature (physically, and hopefully socially/emotionally) and better prepared to "jump" right into the pro game (regardless of level).

Scouts have had more time to study their progress (and/or "find" them) and get feedback on them. What might have been a "not interested" at age 17 might be a "hard to/can't miss" at age 23 as they developed and improved.

Nothing on the AHL transactions (yet) indicating he's signed to an ATO and heading to Worcester.

It may depend on whether Worcester makes the playoffs.

(Did see a kid -- about the right age for 20 -- and what appeared to be his father @ Sharks Ice yesterday. Could be a potential signee. Anyone have a photo?)

WMU ticket holder here.

He was kind of the "Burns" of our defensemen. They'd let him do more rushes with the puck and be more offensive and it was reflected in his +/- as rough a stat as that is (only d-man with a negative) Most of his ES shifts were with Fr. Garrett Haar (Washington pick) A full season in the AHL and he might be in a position to at least stick around camp until near the end. He's had NHL quality coaching the last two years first with Jeff Blashill (now DRW assistant) and Andy Murray, so hopefully he keeps improving.

You won't see one until he's actually here (presuming he is coming here)

I guess Braun is getting traded.

I am loving this sign college kids route we're using. They are much more likely to make it to the NHL sooner too due to their age.

We also have a great selling point. Don't sign with them! They have Mikael Granlund(or some other blue-chip prospect). We have nobody! You'll be higher on our depth chart than on the other teams with good prospect pools.

That's like telling an average looking girl: "don't choose that guy; he's handsomer than me, he'll get a better looking girl and dump you."

Why not sign college free agents?? Most won't make it but some will and it doesn't cost anything. Take the free swing. ...and why not get other teams to throw in 7th round picks as sweeteners for trades. More free swings.

Do you realize that 4 of our best 6 D men were unsigned free agents (Boyle) or 7th round picks (Braun and Demers) or 8th (Murray).

Too big of an ego to try. I bet it'd work too.

Hey, when you give away 2nd round picks like candy, you gotta do what you gotta do.

Plus Desjardins was undrafted, so was Acolotse, Sgarbossa and Connely...

We turn a LOT of those guys into valuable prospects.

Per McKenzie: SJS free-agent signee Matt Tennyson from Western Michigan will report to Worcester of the AHL.

Kind of sounds like a physical Justin Braun. Could be a gem. So it looks like the Sharks could have three California kids in Worcester next year if Nieto goes pro.

Is there even a place for him in Worcester? I guess Moore is still suspended, but the W-Sharks have a ton of defenseman, right?

With the injuries they have right now - they only dressed 5 d-men in their last game.

Moore is back Friday, so we'll have six healthy. I can see him getting a start for O'Hanley or Doherty this weekend if they think he's ready.
