They've really mixed them up as of late...so much so I almost never keep track now. The last time I noted the lines I had...

Moore/Acolatse
Doherty/Petrecki
Irwin/Pelech
O'Hanley(scratch)

How would you rate the baby Sharks D? Who is developing faster than who and where do you see people ending up? Also, does Moore get re-signed or do they let him walk?

BTW, earlier this season the WorSharks went with just 5 defensemen and we were a little ticked off about it until we got what I consider to be a very reasonable explanation...to call up a defenseman for one game when that defenseman doesn't know the system and won't play but a handful of shifts makes no sense when you can dress a 13th forward that gives you a little more options up front.

That was the case last night too.

Based on the scouting reports (thank you all!) i like this one - looks like another gem our scouting department picked up

Can't wait to see him play.

Probably more like 30-40. Most college signees turn into AHL fodder.

There's no way there's 5 bigfoots running around. Let's be serious.

Some info on all 3 of the newly signed Sharks from Chris Peters:

Quote:
Travis Oleksuk — Minnesota Duluth — The Bulldogs had one of the most prolific offenses in the country and Oleksuk was a very big part of it. The UMD senior put up 53 points, good for second on the team behind Hobey finalist Jack Connolly. Olksuk’s senior output was 20 points better than what he did as a Junior and he eclipsed 20 goals for the first time with 21. Oleksuk is strong on his skates and gets to the net really well. He’s not afraid to get his nose dirty and clearly has some serious offensive prowess. This was a nice free agent pickup for the Sharks.

Sebastian Stalberg — Vermont — The younger brother of the Blackhawks’ Viktor Stalberg has taken a step forward in each of his three seasons with the Catamounts. He never overwhelmed offensively, but had a career year with 31 points on a team that really struggled. Like brother Viktor, Sebastian can burn. He has decent size and strength and likely will need a few years of seasoning in the minors, but he’s highly intriguing.

Matt Tennyson — Western Michigan — After Danny DeKeyser announced he would return to school for his Junior season, everyone expected the rest of WMU’s vaunted D corps to come back, too. That was until news broke at that Matt Tennyson signed with San Jose. Though overshadowed by his sophomore teammate, Tennyson had a remarkable junior year. He was one of the nation’s leading goal scorers among defensemen with 11. He put up a career best 24 points, while displaying excellent instincts in his own zone. Tennyson has pro size at 6-2, 212 and skates extremely well. This was a savvy signing by San Jose.
The whole article, which touches on all of the College players that have recently signed is at www.unitedstatesofhockey.com

That's an argument that's gone on for a while - What's better for a players development?

Whether or not any of these guys can translate what they've done in College, Overseas, or in the CHL to the pros is different for each player.

The CHL has players as young as 15 or 16 and go up to age 20 (sometimes 21?).

College players range from 18 - 23, so you'd think that the guys 20 and up are more physically mature.

Sgarbossa had an incredible season (the Wolves were swept in the opening round of their playoffs) but he's still projected to be a good 3rd liner. Just becuase players light it up in the CHL doesn't mean they will in the NHL (see James Sheppard).

There's really no answer as to which level of competition is better in my opinion.

I noticed in the Stalberg blurb that he can burn. That is nice to hear, but contradictory to what people said before he played his 1st game in Worcester. 210, speed, Stalockrox and any other Worcester-ites where would you rate his speed from what you've seen?

So when the Sharks sign an undrafted FA there is a large chance he wont pan out but when they trade two undrafted FA, they are 100% hall of fame locks?

He looked fast to me. "Quick-fast" too. A a good jump/first step. He needs to put on some size to his frame thought. When I met him, all I could think of was his frame reminded me of Kelso on the 1st season of That 70's Show LOL.

Rusanowsky even related the signing (with congrats to all involved to Junior Sharks team) during tonight's game.

I'm not ready to call him "fast" yet, but he has shown a pretty good first step from what I've seen so far.

He scored the beauty on the powerplay in the 1st period. If only the Sharks could do that on the powerplay lol.

Maybe I wasn't paying attention in the past, but it seems like teams are signing more college kids this season. Is this an indication of a weak draft coming up, or is this pretty standard?

Nope, different pots. Draftees may be 0-5 years away from playing pro. Undrafted CHLers, collegians, are "ready" to play now. Players may have matured/improved/developed since their draft-eligible years, or might not have even been on the radar.

Sharks signed CHLers last year: Sena Acolatse, James Livingston. Collegians signed: Brodie Reid, Mike Connolly

2010 signees: Cameron MacIntyre, Nick Schaus, Carter Hutton, Matt Irwin

They ran that on 5 different 5x3 power plays this year. The first three went in the net, but both attempts in Detroit for the CCHA semis and finals were saved. Probably enough tape and talk about it for it to be expected by then.
