I cannto protect Zalesak and he is a pretty good young player. He is leading San Jose's farm team in scoring with 14 points in 13 games and is rated fairly well by HF.

Hey Billy,

Zalesak is still exempt from this year's waiver draft...

He signed at 20 during the 2000-01 season therefore exempt for three seasons...00-01, 01-02, 02-03...don't forget that since the league considers this off-season as part of 02-03 (the end of it) and since the waiver draft is held prior to the start of the 03-04 season, Zalesak does not require protection, he is exempt.

Does that also mean then that McDonald, Arnason and Hagman are exempt?

They have all played too many games (115, 106, 158), none of them qualify, they MUST all be protected.
